who did NOT have an engagement party? Did anyone buy you engagement presents? I'm just asking b/c we didn't have one..and noone bought us anything ( not that i care but wanted to see what other couples experienced). But my friend is having an engagement party and they didn't register anywhere...and i don't want to give money-i'm sorry but i refuse...especially if i have to buy a shower gift and the wedding gift ( which i'll give money for that of course). I just get kind of pissy with all these parties b/c noone thought of me and my fh when we got engaged and it's difficult when you're saving for your own wedding. Do you think a gift like a platter or crystal dish would be ok? I just would hate to go the money route and i'm trying to get creative without breaking the bank.

i'm not trying to sound selfish..but it's just annoying that i'm supposed to give others gifts for their engagements b/c they're having a party but b/c i didn't have one..i don't get anything. Trust me its not a money thing...it would be nice to even get dishes. I just would have liked to be thought of as well during my time too.

Re: out of curiosity...
We did not have an engagement party. I felt like it was too much of a 'We want presents!' thing, and I didn't feel right doing that to people when, like you said, they'll have wedding gifts to pay for. Each of our parents gave us gifts on their own time, our grandparents did the same, and FH's uncle bought us a grill (not sure if that was for our engagment or a house warming thing). I got some cards with money and I also got a few gift cards for Linens n Things. None of my friends gave us cards or anything, it was just family. But at the same time, I wouldn't expect anything from my friends other than a 'congratulations!'.

Re: out of curiosity...
We had one but we received engagement gifts from DH's family shortly after the STD's went out.
I received gifts off my registry for my E-party. I got some cash from close relatives.
Do what you feel comfortable with, buy her something that god forbid she doesnt like it she can exchange it. BBB has a good return exchange policy.

We did have one and we only received gifts from those who went to the party. Some nice gifts that we received were nice photo frames for the house. Things like that can be inexpensive yet beautiful!

One of my friends just got engaged and had friends meet at a bar. I got her this frame from kohl's which was real inexpensive and adorable. Wish i could've done more just really broke lately. I think only one other person got them a gift which i was really suprised about. I would pick up a small frame or something.

I don't think you are being selfish at all. Even when my friends didn't have parties, I always buy them at least a bottle of champagne and a card!

Re: out of curiosity...
we did not have an engagement party and we received a minimal amount of engagement presents. Most presents we received before the shower were from the family or coworkers as christmas / chanukah presents. I wouldn't worry about it, people will just get you more at your shower

Ok yes FH & I had an Eparty about 3 months after our engagement & befor ethe party we did receive a few e-gifts. Im shocked no-one has given you anything to acknowledge thsi time fo you guys. Im sorry. I think also if you do not want to give money then a nice crytsal bowl or platter is a very nice gift. Everyone can use crystal!

Re: out of curiosity...
we didn't have one! but some people just sent gifts outta of kindness. Some sent cards with a check, some sent a toaster, and toasting flutes, and someone even found out that i had a registry ( with like 5 things on it) at Macys and sent us the lenox picture frame set.
We thought it was a litte much to have an engagement party.

Re: out of curiosity...
We didnt have one, but FSIL insisted on giving us an engagement gift. She's the only one who did that... So she bought us 2 things from BBB we said we would like... a crock pot and a griddle and she also contributed to all the pictures we have hanging in our apt... So I guess you sau say it was an e-gift/housewarming gift

I didn't have a party either. For us it's because we are older. We are more established. If we did we would have to pay for ourselves. We did send out Engagment anncouments & got a few money gifts.
Why dont you do that?
John Jones & Lisa Smith are happy to announce they got engaged....

Re: out of curiosity...
We didn't have one. Some people on my side sent us gifts, but FH is from out of state and they don't traditionally give gifts for engagements. I guess it depends on your family or the guests in general that will be attending your wedding? I'm not too sure.

Re: out of curiosity...
I didn't have one. But I did get some gift from co-workers and from friends and family. Things like wedding planners, gift card to movies, the e-ring picture frame in this thread, a set of toasting flutes, and I got a baking set and a food processor (this was from my co-workers).
So i think a little something is much better if you aren't comfortable with money.
