who did NOT have an engagement party? Did anyone buy you engagement presents? I'm just asking b/c we didn't have one..and noone bought us anything ( not that i care but wanted to see what other couples experienced). But my friend is having an engagement party and they didn't register anywhere...and i don't want to give money-i'm sorry but i refuse...especially if i have to buy a shower gift and the wedding gift ( which i'll give money for that of course). I just get kind of pissy with all these parties b/c noone thought of me and my fh when we got engaged and it's difficult when you're saving for your own wedding. Do you think a gift like a platter or crystal dish would be ok? I just would hate to go the money route and i'm trying to get creative without breaking the bank.

Re: out of curiosity...
We had our e party last August....we decided to have one because we have been together for 12 years and our families were so happy about our engagement so we went for it. We did get engagement gifts but mostly cash....I would have never expected gifts if I didn't have an eparty though

Re: out of curiosity...
We had a small surprise one. We were not registered. I sort of found out that something was going on and asked that no presents be given (there were a ton of people invited that were not going to be invited to the wedding!)
Anyway, there was about 30 people there and we got about $600 in travelers checks to use for a fun outting on our honeymoon.
Its great! A few other people gave us gift certificates and some gave small gifts like candles and picture frames, it was really perfect.

We did not have a party and we received three gifts- one from FSIL, Best Man , and my oldest sister and I am not even the slightest bit worried about it.
There are to many other important things I need to worry about....

Re: out of curiosity...
we didn't because since FH and I have only seen eachother maybe 3 weeks out of this whole year and it just can't happen not now and if we did it prob wouldn't be till next march and by then I belive my shower will be either march or may so that would be silly.
And NO we received nothing not even a card i was kinda hoping as the STD's went out we would at least get a few cards or phone calls and nope nothing... not too happy with some people but oh well i'm not gonna sweat it.

Re: out of curiosity...
We had an engagement party, and did not register for it. We both have large families, so the party was family and bridal party only. Most people gave us money...but I'm one of the younger cousins in a large family, and that is what has been done for all of my married cousins. However, a few people that were not invited to the party did send gifts, which was incredibly nice of them.
Some ideas...
We recieved a beautiful pear of lennox candlesticks, a guest book that we will use at the wedding, and a very nice silver picture frame/photo album....
Ultimately, do what you can do. Obviously you are putting thought into it and that will be appreciated.

One of my friends just got engaged and had friends meet at a bar. I got her this frame from kohl's which was real inexpensive and adorable. Wish i could've done more just really broke lately. I think only one other person got them a gift which i was really suprised about. I would pick up a small frame or something.
Hhahahaha - I have this frame. It sits on my desk at work and love it!!!!

Re: out of curiosity...
Had one and it was great! lots of gifts. Fh didn't want one cause he felt it would be as if we were asking for gifts but my parents ended up throwing it for us so we didn't have a choice. I think if it's an option definitely have it. i just wanted a small sit down dinner with the immediate family to celebrate but had a great time anyway with a big party.

We didn't have an e-party, but we did send our engagement announcements. We received several gifts. People were very generous.

I didn't have one and we didn't receive any gifts!!
We did not have a party and did not receive gifts other than:
1. From my sister and her husand ( vera wang wedding set -- flutes, cake cutting set, engraved pen and a frame that matched all that ) which were very generous 2. My mom. and 3. Fh's aunt who sent us a card and check.

Re: out of curiosity...
We didn't receive one and we only received engagement gifts from MY parents, MY sister and her husband, MY best friend and bridesmaid, MY dad and MY Aunt. His family did NOTHING for us and none of our friends other that my best friend even thought of us. We got a lot of cards but not many gifts at all. I guess that is normal when you don't have an eparty! It would have been nice for his family to give us SOMETHING though. I mean I guess I got kind of annoyed because MY family is paying for this whole wedding and they were the only ones to get us gifts. Meanwhile HIS family is paying for NOTHING but the RD and still didn't get us gifts!

Re: out of curiosity...
This is actually our second time being engaged... We had an e-party the first time around (about 4 years ago) so we figured we would forego it this time. All I did was send out emails letting people know about the engagement. We received a bunch of cards but just congratulating us.

We didnt have one. I didnt even know what an engagement party was until LIW. i know ive been living under a rock! i hvnt been to a wedding in over 8 years and im the first of my close friends to get married.
We didnt get any engagement gifts either. E-parties is not something our families normally do.

Re: out of curiosity...
I did not have one. It was our personal choice. I might get attacked for this one, but I think eparties are like having 2 weddings. I didnt want to put anyone out financially.
I got a photoalbum from my aunt and it is one of the nicest, thoughtful gifts from the heart.
