Out-of-town Bridesmaids
I have three bridesmaids that will not be in NY to shop for their dresses. Do I get their measurements and bring them to the store with me so the dresses can be ordered? Two out of three will come for fittings, but one may not be able to. Can I get the dress from the store when it comes in and mail it to her so she can have it altered? How has everyone handled this.

I live in VA but have been in two recent weddings in NY. I sent the bride my measurements and she ordered the dress and sent it to me to have altered here in VA. It seems to work well that way. Hope that helps!

Two of my girls did the same thing, and it worked out fine.

Have the store send the dress to the bridesmaid and depending on where the bridesmaid lives she may pay no taxes. My cousin (and bridesmaid) lives in CA and the store is sending the dress to her (she pays shipping but no taxes) and they she will get teh alterations done by her local tailor.

Out-of-town Bridesmaids
I planned my wedding from NC and three of my bridesmaids live in NY, one in NC, one in FL, one in PA, and one in VA. I ordered the dresses from a shop in NC. Just got all of their measurements picked the closest to their measurements for a size (on the size chart). Then I picked up the dresses- shipped them off to each bridesmaid and they had them altered if they needed to on their own. Many shops will not ship the dresses -- and do not include alterations. This seemed easiest for everyone.

What I did
I live in NY and one of my bridesmaid is in Washington state. We ordered Jim Hjelm dresses. I gave her the style number and color and she ordered her dress from a bridal shop in her neighborhood. The other bridesmaid ordered their dress here in NY. They tell you not to order the dresses separately because of discrepansies in the color of the material they use but if there was such a thing, it wasn't noticeable.

Be careful about ordering from different shops
I have a similar situation. 2 of my BMs live in Mass, but are coming here for measurements. First, make sure a professional takes the measurements. A lot of girls measure their hips in the wrong place and that can greatly affect the size of the dress that is needed. Also, if you order from a different shop you might get a dress made from a different dye lot. The colors will be close but not exact. Just something to consider. But definately have the bridal shop ship the dress. That way they are responsible for any problems or delays.Welcome New Vendors
