Out-of-Towners Guest Bags

Is anyone making little gift bags for Hotel Guests? I was thinking of putting together a little something to welcome them but not sure what to put in the bags. Water? Food? Maps of LI? Anyone have any ideas or know where I can find some cheap LI maps??

Out-of-Towners Guest Bags

We are doing this. We are going to Sam's club and buying snacks, little aspirin packs for the day after (or alka-seltzer). Another thing we are doing is putting in a things to see or do list.

Out-of-Towners Guest Bags

I got one at a wedding I went to in the fall. It was such a cute idea. It had a small pack of cookies, pretzels, bottle of water, an apple, sample pack of aspririn. I can't remember what else. It was all put together in a small gift bag with a welcome/thank you note from the bride and groom. I think the maps of LI is a great idea but not sure where you can get them cheaply. Maybe you can make something on the computer or print out a list of suggested places to visit, places to go for dinner, lunch, breakfast, etc.

Out-of-Towners Guest Bags

I plan on doing bags for my out of town guests as well. Claud2001 told me she got maps on 7-11 for cheap. So I am going to look there. Some gas stations also have free local maps. I think I saw a sign for that once. Not sure which ones though. Claud2001 put small bottles of Pindar wine in hers. She got them at a local wine shop. Which I think is a great idea. I am going to include: -a map, bottle of water for each person, welcome note from us, LI postcard, snack (like chips), and mints. And for the guests with children I will probably include one of those Oscar Myers make your own cookie kits. I also read that someone else put in a I Love NY pin into the bag. That is a nice idea too.

Out-of-Towners Guest Bags

Just wondering; what do you do-call the places you had blocked rooms at & see if anyone is staying over? Want to do little bags for anyone staying over, but wasn't sure when to call hotels?

Out-of-Towners Guest Bags

We are having our reception at the Wyndam Wind Watch Hotel and are having a lot of out of town guests from Scotland and the New England Area. The Wyndam Hotel actually charges $3 to place the baskets in the guests rooms - so you should check with your hotel whether or not they will charge you for this service. We are going to put a personal note thanking our guests for coming; an iternerary for the weekend that will include a LI and NYC map, local attractions, transportation, restuarants etc...; a small bottle of LI wine; LI Jam; local made bread; Scottish shortbread; fruit; and bottled water. I think it is a nice way to welcome and say thank you to people who have traveled a long way to be at the wedding. Best of luck!

what we did: Maps, etc

We got the LI Guide and some other visitors stuff from the Visitors and Convention Bureau. I got them for free. I put a bottle of Pindar Wine (full bottle was able to get them for like $7 each -- it might have been less), snacks from BJ's, a welcome letter and I looked for the I LOVE NY pins but couldn't find them so I made little magnets with the logo and added our names and wedding date. I also included bottle openers for the wine because we got married four days after 9/11 and there were so many headaches trying to get family/friends to LI that we figured they might want the wine right away. Check with a local discount liquor store about the wine -- if you tell him you want a case or two they might be able to get it cheaper for you. We just left them at the hotel front desks and when people checked in they gave them the bags.
