Outer Envelope / Inner Envelope??

Outer Envelope / Inner Envelope??

OK, for the outer envelopes it should be:

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
123 Any Street
Anywhere, New York 11111

Then, for the inner ones it should be:

John Doe
Jane Doe

??? OR...

Mr. John Doe
Mrs. Jane Doe

Then... what if Mr. John Doe is a single stud??

Outer: Mr. John Doe and Guest ??

Inner: (I have NO clue) ????

HELP!

I believe inside

jane doe & john doe

if single still same thing john doe and guest...

basically you are getting rid of the mr, mrs, ms. or dr.

I think the inside is for any confusion of children invited too HTH

Dani, I believe if he's a single stud you would put Mr. John Doe on outer envelope, then on the inner envelope, address it 'Mr John Doe and Guest'

here's a site that helped me with that etiquette business!

You have the outer correct... but I think the inside negates the first name so it would just be:

Mr. and Mrs. Doe

Mr. Doe and Guest

Mr. Doe and Ms. Dixon (if it's a girlfriend)

If John Doe is single...the outer should just be Mr. John Doe and the inner should say John Doe and what ever the guest name is.

Re: Outer Envelope / Inner Envelope??

never write 'and guest' on an outer envelope....that goes on the inner envelope

I believe Mr. and Mrs. is deleted from the inner envelope, but a title like Dr. isn't....

hope this helps!
also, there's a distinction between married and unmarried with different last names...

Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Doe

for singles living together:
Mr. John Smith
Ms. Jane Doe (this 2nd name should be indented)

Wow, good to know girls!!!

Thanks so much...

I have NO clue what I'm doing and was just guessing.

I guess my calligrapher girl would have told me what's what but I'm trying to put together the spreadsheet for her now and I wanted it to be done correctly so that she didn't have to fix all this stuff and she could just get writing.

This is from Crane:

Your guests' names are repeated on the inside envelope. This time, however, only their titles and surnames are used. If children under the age of 18 are invited, their first names appear on the line beneath their parents' names.

Yes that is correct...I just read that in a bridal magazine a few minutes ago...InStyle Weddings Winter 2007

Married Couple with the same last name
Example:
Mr. and Mrs. William Harbin
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: The husbands full name (no nicknames), preceded by 'Mr and Mrs'
Inner: Dont use first names; in this case, it would read 'Mr. and Mrs. Harbin'

Married couple with children under 18 living at home
Example:
Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Burleston
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: Childrens names are left off the outer envelope
Inner: 'Mr. and Mrs. Burleston' on the first line; childrens first names on a line below.

Married Couple in which the woman has kept her maiden name
Example:
Ms Olivia Olsen
and Mr. Ethan Hayes
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: The wifes name appears first, on its own line; 'and' indicates marital status
Inner Place 'ms> Olsen' on the top line; 'and Mr. Hayes' is written below.

Married couple in which the woman is a doctor
Example:
Doctor Julie Walker
and Mr. Jonatoan Burns
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: The womands name is written above her husbands. 'Doctor' is spelled out.
Innter: 'Doctor Walker' is written on the first like; 'and Mr. Burns' appears below.

Unmarried Couple living together
Example:
Miss Christine Stein
Mr. Joshua Richmond
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: The guests names (ladies first) are written on two lines, without 'and'
Inner Write 'Miss Stein' on the first line, with 'Mr. Richmond' below

Single person with a date
Example:
Mr. Matthew Paris
123 Anywhere Lane
Anytown, NY 12345
Outer: Address this envelope to only the guest you know personally
Inner: The words 'and guest' are added after 'Mr. Paris.'

Extra Tips:
Never use first names on the inner envelope, except for childrens.
Spell out state names, plus words and terms such as 'street' 'road' 'Avenue' 'Apartment' etc.
Whenever a woman's name appears independently - no matter the reason - it always goes on the first line.
Include titles such as 'doctor' or 'judge' only if guests use them both socially and professionally.

Also if you have specific names for people...aunt jane and uncle harry.......you can put this on the inside. The inside is more formal then the outside.

I did
Outer:
Mr. and Mrs. John Doe

Outer:
Mr. John Doe

Inner:
Mr. John Doe and Guest
