Outside of Long Island

Has anyone else looked at places not on long island? I'm also looking in CT and it's so different. The cocktail hours are so basic compared to here!

Outside of Long Island - Long Island Weddings

I didn't look very seriously outside of Long Island, but we explored a few options. At the time, we were living in the Hudson Valley so we considered that, and my FH family lives in the Lake George/Saratoga area so we thought about that. All three places are some of the most beautiful spots in NY don't get me wrong, but they just don't do weddings like Long Island. Yes, it costs a lot more on LI, but to me its worth it! I keep thinking of how his family will have their socks knocked off walking into a LI wedding. They cant believe how extensive the menu is, and my thought was that it was pretty minimal compared to what I have seen! Its just not the same, even watching 4 weddings on TLC makes it obvious.

I looked in New Rochelle. I would say the menus (CH included) were comparable to LI.

We had toyed with the idea of NJ, since FH is from there and we are moving there. We also started to explore Hudson Valley area. I noticed right off things are very different other places than in NJ. I also feel like FIL's are disapproving of the wedding we are having because it's so different here on LI.... fancier, etc.

i heard that foxwoods in CT has awesome weddings!

my sister's wedding was in VT, and it cost about the same as mine is going to cost and her cocktail hour had cheese and crackers, fruit, and one ravioli station that they paid extra for and THAT'S IT!

We looked outside of LI... New Rochelle had some comparable places (pricing and food). A lot of the places we looked at in CT were places that you rented and then needed to bring in your own stuff... I thought it was very expensive just to rent the space. (like 10,000 and all you got was the room!)

There is nothing like a LI, NJ wedding... most places outside of it are a cheese and crackers kind of a deal. Most of FH's family will be coming to our wedding from CT and we need to warn them that cocktail hour is NOT dinner. hahahaha

I looked at a couple of places in NJ, a few in New Rochelle and a few in LI. The packages were pretty similar in what they offer but I think NJ was a bit pricier since I was seeing places that had a NYC view. New rochelle was a little bit over too. So ultimately we realized we got more bang for our buck in LI.

we looked at 3 places in ct and only one of the them had a pasta station in the cocktail hour..everything else was total basic cheeses, veges, fruits, and a few passed hors'dourves..my family is on long island and his is from ct. I'm really leaning towards long island but still haven't found the place

I've lived in both NY and CT, and on the basis of food alone, if I were given a choice between the two, I would choose NY a thousand times over for my wedding. That being said, it doesn't necessarily have to be Long Island. Have you looked in New Rochelle, or even the boroughs?

I looked in the Bronx and the cocktail hour was literally cheese olives and crackers . I was in shock!!! New Rochelle has nice venues like glen harbour. Avoid surf club they have bad reviews! I found a beautiful place in CT called Farmington gardens. I also was looking at the Hilton in Stamford, ct which was comparable pricing to LI

Oh I also looked at a gorgeous country club in upstate NY but you just weren't getting enough bang for your buck

IN the same boat with you guys. We didn't really look into the places here however if we were going to get married here it would have most likely been overlooking the city which I'm sure would've been ridiculously priced.
