I will be 35 when I get married... FH will be 28. We are going all out for this wedding. It's a first time wedding for both of us. Is it 'silly' to have the wedding of your dreams at 35? Am I too 'old' for all of this fun stuff? I love it, but feel a little like I'm sitting at the kiddies table when I should be sitting with all the adults.
We are paying our own way, and we have a lot of money invested in this so we can get whatever we want... and I'm so excited about everything. I just want to make sure everything remains elegant and pretty and wonderful without being inappropriate for my age. Is it OK to have a big huge wedding at this age?

I totally hear you-- I'm 34 and FH is 35. I have a big poofy dress and was a little worried about that being ridiculous! But Its in less than a month, and I am very, very excited! 30's are the new 20's. Very few of my friends are married yet.
30's are the new 20's. I will be 30 in a few weeks and FH 32. We are having a big fat wedding and i never considered our age once. Lots of our friends are getting married now and none of us held back!

Re: Over 30 Brides... A Question
Go for it! I'll be 37 & he'll be 46 (my 1st & his 2nd) - I'm doing my own thing....the best of both worlds. Non-traditional aspects: no bridal party on either side, no BM, or MOH. Marrying at the RH, no garter throw, etc...

Re: Over 30 Brides... A Question
you will know what feels right......I do think at 40 I look better in a sleeker gown, than a fluffy gown. If you want to skip the garter or something no one will care.

Re: Over 30 Brides... A Question
I was 41 and DH was 45 at our wedding, a forst for each of us. I contemplated about having a small, just immediate family affair with a justice of the peach, but realized that I would be cheating myself out of what I have dreamed of since I was a little girl. Just because I was older didn't mean I couldn't do the whole wedding thing. I just made things a bit more adult - no bo-k toss, no garter toss, music a bit more to our times and what we like - standards and jazz.
We enjoyed every minute of it and do not regret it at all.

it's your wedding, forget what anyone else thinks. besides, a girl should have the wedding of her dreams at any age.

Re: Over 30 Brides... A Question
Woo Hoo another 40 year old bride here!!! First time for both me and DH, he was 41. I had a beautiful wedding, did things OUR way, and loved every minute of it. I was engaged before (age 25), cancelled it a few weeks before the date and I have to tell you comparing both wedding planning experiences is like night and day!! I loved having the confidence to plan our day without family/friend pressure, we're just 'too old' for the nonsense! I also can't tell you the amount of support we got from EVERYONE who had ANYTHING to do with our big day -- friends/family on both sides, even VENDORS were quick to say 'GOOD FOR YOU' for taking our time getting to such an important day.
Even better, I'm 6.5 months PG with our HONEYMOON baby, I'll be 41 when he gets here!!!
So yeah, I'm feeling like 40 is the new 30!!!!
Best of luck sweetie!!!!!

Re: Over 30 Brides... A Question
I'm 32 and I've caved into my family and aren't having the wedding of my dreams... So if you can GO FOR IT! Who cares about age? Do what YOU want!

Re: Over 30 Brides... A Question
I have gotten over the 'Over 30' jitters. I LOVE LOVE LOVE planning my wedding. LOVE IT. We gave ourselves enough time to plan a wedding and buy a house/condo... but I love planning so much I want to book everything RIGHT NOW and my wedding isn't for (looks up at the LIW counter at the top of the page: 665 days, 7 hours 30 minutes and 54 seconds).
I've asked a lot of people (even those in the industry) and they say I'm actually not too early to plan the big things I want: DJ/Band, Photo, Video so I'm having so much fun going to all the vendors.
The added bonus to being over 30, IMHO, is that I have the $$$ to get exactly what I want without having to worry about someone elses budget besides mine and my FHs. We have assistance, but if we want something on our own we can afford it and that's the best feeling. When I was in my 20s I, personally, would have depended more on others and may have had to sacrifice more than I do now.
All the posters at LIW offer the best ideas and advice... the problem? I want to do it ALL!
