I love tea length BM dresses ... but I can't decide if they will be too informal for my wedding. My Mom thinks BM dresses have to be floor length gowns all the time - so I'm getting a lot of grief. My BMs are split. But I just love the contemporary look, and I think they are so much more comfortable to move, dance in, etc...
Here are the details: The wedding is a Friday night in September. We are having a church ceremony then reception at the Royalton. My dress isn't very elaborate - strapless, A-line, lace with crystal beading, no train. Our colors are light blue and red, SO the BM dresses will be a dark red.
I'd really appreciate hearing all of your opinions to help me make my decision! Thanks!

hey fellow Royalton bride! I think there are a lot of dresses that look fancy and elegant that are tea length... many of my guests were cocktail dresses to the reception... my girls wore floor length but I chose that because it was winter.

I'm getting married at the Royalton too! I think tea-length would be fine. It sounds as if your dress is more simple than over the top so I think that tea length is a better choice. As far as BM dresses always having to be floor-length, those rules are out the window.. it's 2007 & anything goes.

I think tea length gowns are very pretty. Chose some styles and bring some of your girls to try on dresses, maybe then when you see the style on some of your girls you can make a decision

I think it depends on the wedding. A very formal wedding--yes, you should probably have floor-length BM dresses. Mine is a semi-formal daytime wedding with the ceremony at the venue. So I'm having tea length dresses and I think it's appropriate.
However...I think your mom has a point. A Friday night wedding, with a church ceremony first--that's usually a more formal wedding where floor-legth dresses would be appropriate. But it's up to you! What's the rest of the tone of your wedding like? Is it all white flowers and very formal invites? Or did you go with a more contemporary look for everything? If it's more contemporary, then have the dresses you want. Or haven't you gotten that far? If you haven't gotten that far, and you want the tea-length dresses, then get the funky colored cake, the bright colored invitations, the interesting and fun floral arrangements. It will work. Really. Good luck.

and remember, just a few proper accessories and shoes can make a dress go from somwaht less formal to something more formal and elegant. (also, I would stay away from patterns or lighter colors, since they would lead shorter dresses to be more informal...)

I am getting married at the end of June. I am having a church ceremony first and then an afternoon reception. I decided on tea-length dresses for my girls as well. I really loved the look of them and I thought they would be appropriate for my wedding as well. In reality, it's YOUR wedding and if you decided that you like tea-length dresses, then go for it! It's your day, choose what you want! HTH!

I am having tea length dresses too for a formal wedding. I think it is fine.
As someone else said, the style of the dress also plays a role. Pick one that looks more formal and when they are all put together they will look beautiful!

I would go tea length...They look classy and elegant and if that is what you really want...DO IT!
There are plenty of things we want for our big day but can't have because of $$$$...however, the length of your BM dresses is something you can be happy with.. JMO

I am doing tea length for that very reason! Girls are in your wedding to support you! When you are in their weddings, you will have to wear whatever they pick. Go with the tea length! Follow your own rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
