How are they on the electric bill?

I was thinking of having a fireplace built into our new bedroom but maybe a gas one.

I saw a couple of electric fireplaces at Woodbox on Jericho Turnpike in Commack .. and it's something you need to see for yourself .. because it's such a personal decision on whether or not you think it's worth it.

For me .. I'm just really looking to 'complete' the look of our bedroom .. and putting in a real fireplace is just not an option.

These electric stoves will give me the 'look' I'm after .. and provide a nice effect of a fire .. but I can not say it looks 100% like a real fire. The illusion is pretty cool .. but .. NO .. it does not look like a real roaring fire .. at least to my eye.

Maybe the illusion would have been better had I not been standing right over the stoves I saw .

I do admit to being amazed when they were first turned on .. but I decided it was not something I was going to unload a big bundle of money on, either.

And I wanted one with a remote control!! Yeah, that's real!!!

So the two on Overstock come with a remote .. and they are about what I was looking to spend.

In the stores .. it seems they run $300-$800 or more.

The floor sample they showed me .. which would be sold 'as is' .. was going for $500 .. WITHOUT a remote!

Sorry .. but $500 .. which was a 'deal' .. is totally out of my budget.

As for the electric bill .. I think I've read it's about 3 cents an hour to run .. maybe cheaper if you don't run it with the heat .. I'm not sure .. but it plugs straight into an ordinary outlet.

This is not something that is going to be on all the time in my house .. so I wasn't concerned about how much it's going to cost to run .. because to me .. I just can't see that it'd be that expensive .. and I wasn't buying it for the heating aspect .. just the 'look' & illusion.

I've ordered the St. Paul .. I think I like the look of the Minneapolis better .. unobstructed view of the 'firepit' .. but the size of the St. Paul was more what I was looking for.
