Overwhelmed by choices... where to start

I have narrowed down my venue search to a few locations so far. Our list is approximately 150. We do not have a date set so our choices are wide open, as well as time of year. We are looking for something classic, not too ornate or typical. So far our list is Fox Hollow, Old Field Club, The View and Insignia. Any reviews on them or suggestions? Thanks

The only one I looked at was Old Field Club. It has a very pretty reception room, but for our guest list of about 150 the cocktail hour room was way too small. I also found it to be very, very expensive for what you would get. I think we were quoted $185 pp for the Sunday before Columbus Day (2013) when we looked in January 2012. I'm paying WAY less than that and getting a lot more food and extras.

$185 really wow!. Thanks for the heads up. You have the Thatched Cottage listed as your venue they gave better options and pricing? Good Luck with your wedding.

Its not on your list but I say check out Floral Terrace. Its not typical at all and very classic but not too overdone and they are not crazy high with prices. Ballroom is gorgeous and you get the whole place! im I obsessed, lol

Thanks for the heads up. Can anyone tell me anything about the Metropolitan in Glen Cove?

Hi!

We visted the Metropolitan last month as it was listed on the Knot, as one of the most the unique places to have your wedding. The lady we spoke with, Eileen was very nice. The space is great for a small wedding. I'd say an (80) guest list could fit comfortably. However, we didn't like the area it was in. There's a police station next door to it. You have to park across the street from the venue and you have to pay each Valet guy $80 each. Their minimum guest guarantee is about 120. The bathroom was nice. They do have the cocktail hour upstairs and you have access to that area for the remainder of the reception. So not sure if you'll like an upstairs and downstairs for your seating arrangement, if you have more than 100 guests. :o)

The ceremony space where you get married, is cute and you have a little outside deck area.

Overall, it's a cool space but it just wasn't the right fit for us.

Thanks that's is very helpful. I read about H on the Harbor in Port Washington but didn't see many reviews has anyone been there? Is it too small fOr 150?

Thatched Cottage was beyond amazing when we looked at it and things have just gotten better as time has gone on. We have 7 options for dinner, 35 passed hor'derves, 4 specialty stations, in addition to the 5 or so they always have during cocktail hour. It's definitely a place to look into for your wedding size if you like something a little different :)

I'm sure it did - I think all places go up every year. But it was definitely the lowest price out of the 10 places we looked at and gave us the most stuff.

If you're looking for something not too ornate and different... definitely check out West Sayville! Its a lessings so the food is amazing. FH and I did our tasting before we booked and its WONDERFUL! All of the lessings mansions and country clubs have their price ranges listed on the website and Steve at West Sayville is AMAZING!!

Good luck and happy planning!

I haven't been to the Metropolitan for a wedding but I go there every year for city events. The food there is always amazing and I think the ballroom is very elegant and different. The only thing that stopped me from considering the Metropolitan for my wedding is the lack of places to take outdoor pictures.

I'm obviously biased but check out the Swan Club. The grounds are breathtaking especially in the spring/summer months. And taking into consideration your guest list, you can probably get the downstairs Garden Room, which is very pretty. Their prices are very reasonable!

I am booked at the Swan Club as well, you could probably do the garden room or the contessa room with that number of guests. The grounds are amazing and so is the food, we had our tasting last month. Our second choice was Chateau La Mer because of the views and great food. The best wedding we attended as guests overall for food and value was Jericho Terrace.

I really liked the Metropolitan. If you're willing to use both upstairs and downstairs I think they said the max was 200? It was one event at a time.

I haven't been there for a party but I have been there with my family for dinner. The food was amazing! And the decor was gorgeous too. It would be a great place to have a party/wedding.

I agree about the food and decor, I just can't seem to find any reviews for a wedding. Goona check it out ;)

I'm booked at the Somerley @ Fox Hollow and I LOVED that room. I'd definitely check it out.
