Hi everyone. I am new to the boards. I am a new mom with a 10 week old son ! I was wondering if anyone else had trouble gving their baby a pacifer? I have tried the avent and the gerber NUK. He doesn't take the advent ones at all. He likes the NUK a little better- he'll suck on it for a couple of seconds, but then spits it out. Is there any other brand someone can recommend- or should i just give up on the pacifers totally? Thanks !

Re: Pacifiers
We starting giving Jack the Nuks at about 4 weeks old and he liked them for about a month after which he had no interest in a pacifer. So maybe, he just doesn't want one or doesn't have a strong sucking need.

Re: Pacifiers
Some babies just don't like them. Try giving up unless he's looking to suck. Then I'd say try some different ones.

Re: Pacifiers
never gave angela one, she prefered her thumb which is great, because in the middle of the night I sometimes here her stir and whimper for a second, and then start sucking on her thumb. I don't see any problem at all with not giving a pacifier, I wouldn't sweat it.

Re: Pacifiers
My son took a pacifier at first, and he only liked the latex nipples, not the silicone ones.... Maybe try switching that way. At about 3 months, he found his thumb and that was it for the pacifier.

Re: Pacifiers
My daughter never wanted one. She never found her hand to pacify her either. I guess I was surprised b/c my son loved his and I kind of thought all babies did. He just may not want one. But a friend of mine has one for her son that is by Playtex I think. Its all one piece and the nipple itself is very basic looking, not flat on one side. It smells like vanilla a little and her son loves it.
ETA: I remember those nights of going in and trying to find the 'mitty' (his word) in the middle of the night, pulling out the crib b/c it was way in the corner near the wall. He is generally a good sleeper but when he couldnt find the mitty, he cried out for it. That is one of the downsides to getting them hooked on the binky. But he was a colicky baby and it was definitely a Godsend with helping him relax.

Re: Pacifiers
My son didn't want a pacifier either. He would spit it out all the time. It wasn't until he started teething that he started taking it. Half the time he tries to chew on it. The only kind I've given him is the Soothie. This doesn't have any plastic on it and it is not made of latex. Here is a picture...
Thanks everyone ! He does seem to like his hand and thumb more than any pacifier i give him! So i wont push him to take the pacifier. He might just be one of those that will never take one !
