You have some great ideas on your wedding site!! I particularly like your idea for place candles for seating. I was wondering how you are going about putting the votives together. Are the labels stuck onto the votive or are the removable (perhaps, to be used as part of the favor)? The sign-in ceramic plate is also very original.

But I am also doing the candle placecards. I will tell you it is from an issue of Martha Stewart. Read the Micheal's circular ever week. The votive holders go on sale 2 for $1.00 all the time. You use tea lights, not votives though. And those are about $5.00 for 50. The cutting and glueing all of the vellum (wrapped around the candle) is a lot of work, but I think in the end worth it.

Michele - I guess the glass holders don't get too hot to touch? Otherwise, guests would be burning their hands!!!

That must look beautiful all arranged on a table and lit though.....

Teri- That is why you use tealights, not votive candles. Also, the hall lights them just before your guests begin to arrive. So they will not be hot to the touch.

Quick question re the candles - how will you arrange them so that the guests can see their names? (Will you have them at different levels) Will the guest have difficulty reaching over the lit candles to pick out their candle?

hmm - I wouldn't think the type of candle used mattered - only that the votive wouldn't last as long.
That's a good point though about the hall lighting them right before the guests arrive though.....

The votive candles will be higher in the holder therefore the flame will not contained. Tealights will have small flames.
Stef has a picture of it. I am sure she will post when she is out of her meeting.

I think all the questions have been answered except that I did a test with one of my prototypes. I lit it for 4 hours to see a)if it went out and b)if it got too hot.

The candle get warm, not hot. I would use it if I had a lot of kids b/c they could spill the hot wax but that is the only precaution.

I had to blow it out after 4 hours b/c I was leaving my house but it seemed to be going strong.

When you conducted the 'test' run, did you use tealights or votives?

Tealights.

If you use votive candles, the flame will be too high in the glass - causing the it not to look as nice and also possible burns when people put their hands over the glass.

What about if you're inviting someone & Guest? Do you put that on the candle? Do you do one per couple or one per person?

I know the names of most of the guests invited. For those I dont I may put John Smith & Guest or I may just put John Smith since Im sure he will figure it out.

I plan on doing one per couple.

Your version looks professional!!! I hate to keep bothering you, but how did you get the print to look like that? (I'm so not crafty, though I'd love to be). Do you have instructions you could possibly e-mail me ([email protected])? If so, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, another idea could be to put small flowers in the votive holders in place of candles. I've seen that.

No bother...

THe first step is finding the votive holders you will use and buying them. I bought them from Micheals but you may want to use another kind.

The reason why you must do this first is that while the votives LOOK to be perfectly straight up and down, they are not. They are slighly flared at the opening. So you must essentially make a template using one of your votives and tracing around it. It will take a few minutes to get it exactly right but once you do, you use that template as the guide for the rest.

Then using the template, figure out how many 'labels' you can get on 1 sheet of 8x11 paper. I have forgotten but its I believe its 3 for me but it will depend on the kind of votive you buy.

Then type the names in a word processing program to print on the sheet where the names should go.

Print out the names on whatever paper you want to use.

Then use the template againg to cut out each 'label' from the 8x11 sheet.

Wrap the labels around the votives and secure with glue or double sided tape. I think Im going to use tape but I used glue in the version above.

It sounds complicated but once you have the template its really not.

Where did you get the vellum? What kind of vellum is it?
