Re: Paint...

You know, I heard the same thing.. but I tell you this.. Alot of people have been telling me that Benjamin Moore is better.. I know that we have been painting our downstairs white and it sucked up 2- 5 gallon drums of white paint (they originally had a brownish beige in there) if you are painting over a color in another color I suggest that when you prime, you put a little bit of the color you plan to use in the actual paint, so that it'll take in less coats.. Good luck!

Oh, the colors we got for Behr are

tate olive
mayan gold
yam
bagel (?)

Re: Paint...

I think eggshell wipes cleaner
so when you have kids and they dirty your walls its just the finish of the paint

Re: Paint...

KAthy.. my landlord had in the lease that NO allterations to the house are to be made including PAINT... and he painted right before we moved in.. he painted EVERY ROOM the SAME color..

The last apartment the lady was nuts and didnt want us to touch the place and the apartment before that the landlord painted right before we moved in and didnt want us to repaint..

I guess i could understand, i mean some people would paint the place very dark colors and i guess its murder trying to get that out..

Re: Paint...

I was told that Behr is the WORST..but since we have a HOme Depot near me, we have always used that. I think its fine but the colors are not very true to the chips in my opinion. Like I picked a dark tan for my walls and its more like a medium peachy tan - doesnt look anything like the chip.

Ive used Ralph Lauren and I liked the texture of that paint better and thought it had a nice coverage.

Ive never used Ben Moore but Ive heard its the best.

Re: Paint...

Benjamin Moore, is this alot more expensive? What about the Ralp paint, is that expensive?

Re: Paint...

We have no lease so I don't think its a problem. The funny thing is that my landlord owns a painters company and he is a painter. So when we moved in, he painted the WHOLE apartment like a light Blue color, like we weren't going to notice that it was not white...lol. I hated it. The same week I moved in I painted my living room a beige kaki color. Now I am planning to paint every other room of the house. Don't care if they say anything.

If you need any help with anything just let Enzo and I know. We move so much that we are professional movers already.

Re: Paint...

My suggestion is to do a little at a time - or is can be overwhelming. Think about wall color, rugs, accessories, etc when choosing a color.

We too wanted color in our house after many years of apartment living. I know many leases say you can't paint and if you do you have to paint it back before you move out. I lived with white walls for at least 6-7 years!

We have used all different paint brands and really haven't seen any problems. Downstairs our colors are kind of earthy. Our living room and dining room are Ralph Lauren and a light cocoa color. Our family room is sage green (salisbury Green - I believe Benjamin Moore) and I have espresso colored furniture. We haven't painted the halls or kitchen yet but I think I am keeping the off white color in the halls and pale yellow in kitchen. Upstairs we added color. Our guest bedroom is bright Ikea yellow - so bright! With Blue accessories. Our parents (more traditional in taste) thought we were nuts but have grown to like it. Our office is a burnt orange color. I think we used Behr for both rooms - the burnt orange was rough and needed like 4 coats to get the right color. I had no problems with the swatch not matching the color. We still have plenty more to paint.

Now we are working on picking out colors for DH's gym room and our master. We are thinking grayish blue for the gym and not sure about the master. I may stay kind of neutral in the bedroom because my good bedding has lots of color. We may going looking this weekend. DH is on vacation next week and wants some projects!

Re: Paint...

I agree w/Stef regarding Behr...we were warned NOT to use it, b/c it does not cover well. So, we stayed far away from Behr paint. However, we've heard of plenty of people that it worked fine for. Go figure!

Our house is mostly painted in Sherwin Williams paint...we LOVE it! Very nice coverage, colors very true to the chips, easy to apply and work with.

However, I just found two colors for my kitchen that I LOVE and they are Ralph Lauren. I'm not sure yet if we will just go with the Ralph Lauren, or if we will try to find the closest matches at Sherwin Williams.

Re: Paint...

Ralph Lauren is pretty pricey - about $30 gallon? I wouldnt use it if you are picking white or a light color b/c the other brands have lots of that for less $$. Ralph Lauren has some really nice richer colors to use alone or to use with a paint technique as an accent.

Thank you ladies. I guess I will stick with Benjamin moore, because I dont think i want to spend 30.00 a gallon..

I want to paint the dowstairs earthy colors..

Re: Paint...

A few things we did:

Ceiling Paint - Home Depot has 5 Gal Pails of White that sometimes go on sale. We went through a few of those.

Primer - We used it in every room except the Guest Room. Its the first thing we did.
We used a white primer so everything was clean. I couldn't decide on the colors for our LR/DR and Hallway right away, so the primer got us through for a few months. We also purchased the 5 Gal Pails.

Paint - We went with Benj. Moore for most of the house, its true to color easy to clean. We used eggshell.

Supplies:
rollers, drop cloths and gloves - we mostly bought disposable because this stuff is not worth trying to clean. We did get a few of those big blue tarps to cover carpeted areas.

Brushes - we went with the Purdy professionals cost more but there is a difference and they are not hard to clean if you are using latex paint, just soap and water.

Tape - that blue tape works but You MUST remove it Before the Paint is Dry. We learned the hard way on this one.

Try to get any the demolition done before you move your stuff in. You never know what you will find under paneling. We had a few surprises under ours and decided to re sheetrock the DR.

Good Luck and Have Fun!
