Parent Gifts?

Original post by bride082003

Is everyone getting their parents a gift? What are you getting them. I just have my mom to buy for. I have no clue what to get her. Thanks

Re: Parent Gifts?

My parents paid for the whole wedding down to tips for matre d' etc, and I wanted to do something nice but not something that would put us in some major debt, so I got them a one-year membership to a wine of the month club. They really liked it since they are wine drinkers. I wanted something unique.

I think just parent albums and an 8x10 family portrait. Both of our parents are separted so that means 4 parent albums and 4 8x10s.

Jess2 - Who is your photographer? $650 is ridiculous for a parent album!!

My mom's friend got a Nambe silver bowl from her son when he got married - they start at $100 and go up and are sold at Bloomingdales and Saks.

We might get my dad a cigar travel case - they are approx $100 and up.

Not sure about the rest of them.

Jess- $650 is out of control!!!!

I want to get each set of parents a little something. I'm not getting the albums right away, can not afford them!!!! I will get my negatives and have albums made elsewhere for each of them.

The video tapes will certainly be part of their 'gifts'.

I guess I'm terrible b/c my Mom is paying for 1/2 and we're paying for the rest of it ourselves- I guess I feel that his parents aren't doing anything for it. (Not even some moral support! ) Am I wrong that I don't want to get them a 'thank you' gift- exactly what am I thanking them for?

Re: Parent Gifts?

Both sets of our parents chose the most expensive album for themselves with the understanding that they would each pay for their own. They could have gone w/the cheaper ones but they didn't want to do that. The thing is, my FI's parents are also not contributing at all, but I do want to give them a little something as a nice gesture. I know they will give us a wedding gift too. My parents have been really wonderful, and I feel very lucky. So, I will probably spend more on them.

I love to know where everyone got their wedding hankies!

I brought my hankies in 'Once Upon A Time' in Malverne. It is a local store that has things for weddings, babies, hoes, etc. I think it is a beautiful store.

I got wedding handkerchiefs for my mom & my dad and stepmother & his mom & dad. We are not sure what we are doing with pictures but probably just getting them all 8x10 framed pictures. Unless they really want an album.

My mom & stepfather are paying for our honeymoon as a wedding gift so I really want to get them something nice. Since they are wine drinkers I thought maybe Wine of the Month. Anyone ever do that? How can I get that? Any other ideas?

you can also get the hankies at the Milleridge Village.... there's a store that sells all that kind of stuff!

My father being invited is enough of a gift for him. I might get my mom something, but not very expensive. Maybe a nice pair of earings to wear that day or something like that.

FH and I haven't really decided about our gifts to our parents.......

both moms got earrings to wear the day of the wedding (his mom - black pearls, my mom - diamond huggies). Dad's each got cufflinks. I also made my mom a handkerchief, and Al did a charcoal sketch of his parents wedding picture.

We also got parents albums and 8x10's for both the parents.

(combined they paid for about 25% of the wedding, but that had nothing to do with why we gave the gifts we did)
