Parent's Tables

Parent's Tables

FH and I are not sure how to seat our parents at our wedding, and I need some opinions.

They have not met before and will not meet until the rehearsal dinner. My parents live several states away and have not been up here since we got engaged. FH thinks we should put our parents and sisters (only one each) at their own table so they can get to know one another.

While I think that's nice, I also think they may prefer to sit near some of their respective family and friends. Also, I'm concerned about the fact that they may not get along that well. While overall I think they would, both of our mothers are very outspoken women, and well, you get the picture.

So, what would you do, or did you do in a similar situation? Thanks!

Re: Parent's Tables

We had one table for my mom and her closest family, one for my dad and his closest family, and one for DH's parents and their closest. It worked best for us (my parents are divorced) having our parents being able to visit with OOT relatives that they rarely see. They definitely all mingled at the RD and the wedding, but for the seated part it worked best for us lke that.

IMO, I would sit your family with your family and etc.It may be completely uncomfortable for them to 'come up' with conversation throughout the day which may be more stress than they need. But your FH does have a point, are your parents coming up before the wedding? could you do a breafast or lunch just the six of you?

I wouldn't do a parents table, especially since they don't know each other, let them each have thier own head table with thier family. JMO

Re: Parent's Tables

We had my parents, Grandparents & Godparents at one table & DH's parents entire family (only 12 people since his cousins were at our BP table)

My family did joke about sitting with DH's parents, since our family is nuts, but this worked out nicely!

They are, but they have various appts. and friends they are visiting before the wedding. I had hoped to do something else with his parents, but they won't be here until the Friday before.

Unfortunately, neither set of parents has been very outgoing in this matter, and when I suggested mine come earlier, they said they had made other plans already.

We are seating each of our parents at separate tables. Although our parents get along really well with each other, I think they would most appreciate sitting with their respective closest family and/or friends.

Re: Parent's Tables

We plan to sit my parents at one table (with a few aunts/uncles, grandpa) and FH's parents at a SEPARATE table (with grandma, aunts/uncles, etc).

FFIL tends to monopolize the conversation, plus my parents aren't completely comfortable with FH's parents. I want my parents to sit with the people they love and are most comfortable with - to ensure they don't feel awkward or have forced conversations!

My parents and close aunts and uncles sat at one table. My IL's did the same with their table. We had a brunch the day after too, so it made things really nice to talk and relive the wedding.
