You should apply no later the 6 weeks ahead. Sometimes it can take a while. However, I got mine in 3 weeks back in 2001.

Sometimes if they are backed up it can take longer. Do it ASAP to be on the safe side

I think it depends, but to be safe...go get it NOW!
I know I got mine back in 1996 and it took 3 months. I think it all depends on the time of year.
Just bring with you to post office, a sealed copy of Birth Certificate, SS card, and 3 pics of self (can be done at CVS or Ekards; passport photo)
