Re: Passport Questions...

When I got mine over ten years ago, I went to the post office. (Huntington's post office on Jericho). I would think now you would be able to print out the application on-line or find local office's and information. Good Luck

Re: Passport Questions...

since you have time, go to the post office & get the form and mail it in or go to the place in the city.

Re: Passport Questions...

Do I have to get a picture done first, or does the form come first?

Re: Passport Questions...

I would think the form first because the form will tell you about the picture and the specs of the picture.

Re: Passport Questions...

Christy you can go to the post office and pick up an application, then fill it out and bring it back to the post office with the pictures and your birth certificate and they will mail it to you in about 6 weeks. They keep your birth certificate and mail it back with your passport. I went a few months ago and the price was $65 now its up to $85 for 10 year passport.

Re: Passport Questions...

We just got our passports a few months ago for a cruise. We went to the Genovese for photos (passport is a standard size), then we went to the post office to fill out the forms. In total - the process took about 15 minutes. Just be careful - they take your ORIGINAL birth certificate and mail it back to you with your passport. Make sure you won't need your birth certificate for anything else during those 4-6 weeks. We paid extra ($35 each - I think) for quick processing. We got our passports in 10 working days.

Good Luck!!

Re: Passport Questions...

Passport Info

YOu can download the application on this site-- It tells you what kind of pictures you need so that you only need to make one trip to the post office. I am not 100% sure but I don't think you can go to any post office- only some of them do passports.

Re: Passport Questions...

I had to get my passport last year.First I went to the post office and got the application , got a hold of my birth certifiacte- if you cannot find yours you have to call the county where you were born and write a letter why you need it and then there is a small fee. I went to Genovese and they took my picture there , Then bring everything back to the post office and they sent it in where ever it has to go and them you get it in the mail a few weeks to months later. I did mine 6 months before I needed it. It came back pretty fast. In the white pages under post offices it lists where you can get the application. PS. I was told if you are a member of AAA they take the pic for free. I am not sure if they still do this. You might want to check it out. Good luck!

Re: Passport Questions...

It is so easy to get passport photos. Many photo developing places in malls (like the Ritz) do passport photos. All you need to do is tell them you need passport photos. They will give you two copies of photos in the size specified on your passport application.

When I applied for a passport several years ago, I remember having to submit two checks that totaled $65. I got my passport in 5 weeks (this was in Manhattan), but plan on waiting up to several months. You need to find a post office that handles passport applications. Usually the main ones do, but call first. Good luck!
