What are the songs that gets everyone on the dance floor? I am making my must play list and would appreciate some input. TIA!

Re: Past brides and past wedding guests...?
70's disco stuff and latin pop (like j lo and ricky martin) worked very well!
ETA: we just watched our video for the 1st time and songs like rock around the clock (and other 50's stuff) also works really well

Re: Past brides and past wedding guests...?
LOL Everything that the ladies above posted were all the songs that were on my do not play list
Guess I have bad taste but those songs kill me....expecially any dance oriented song like ymca or chicken dance
For my wedding, everyone was dancing to Sean Paul, and other top songs back in November.
If you have a good DJ he will play what is needed to get more people dancing- a good DJ wont need a play list.

I like the above songs. Remember to get your older guests on the dance floor too. They like that 50s swing. Who doesn't like Rock around the clock? Even if you're not into that music, it's amazing to see your grandparents, or great aunts and uncles dance to that. Just because it might not be your dance music, it's awesome to watch! It's something you will treasure forever.

At my wedding, the most people were up dancing during 80's classic rock songs.

I think it depends on your guests. FH & I are an 'older' couple. The current popular music is something neither of us listen to, nor do our friends.

Same here, the 80's songs got people up and dancing esp Pour Some Sugar on Me and Living on a Prayer.

I agree. Also, the 50's, the Beatles, Love Shack from the B-52s,
I will think of more. We just had a surprise E-Party and EVERYONE was up and dancing. People are still telling me how much fun they had.

Completely agreed. Playlists are more for when you have songs that you absolutely love and can't imagine not hearing at your wedding. My play lists included a few country songs that I love, and a couple of specific songs that I needed to hear (that probably would've been played anyway).
Your do not play list is WAY more important. I, for example, absolutely HATE the song 'Unchained Melody', and didn't want it. Most people love that song, making it a standard slow dance song for weddings. So it went on the Do Not Play list, to preven it from being played.

I also agree - we did not have a play list, we just let the DJ do his job.

I've noticed:
My First, My Last, My Everything (Barry White) The classics from Michael Jackson before he went insane Can't Get Enough of Your Love (Barry White) Dancing in September, Hot Feet (Earth, Wind and Fire) Sweet Caroline (Neil Diamond)
*These are just a few off the top of my head that I can remember-- these have been played at weddings and have always been a hit-- they always get people out on the floor*

Thanks for the suggestions ladies...please feel free to add more. Unfortunately, I have to be very specific with my vendor. I have a must play list and a do not play list. LOL...I'm thinking of Pour Some Sugar on Me for cake cutting...I love def leppard and FH wanted something a little different.

Re: Past brides and past wedding guests...?
There was nearly a stampede for the dance floor when our band started playing 'Don't Stop Believin' by Journey...
My mother told me later that some of the elderly relatives looked a little frightened and asked my mom, 'What's going on?'
It was definitely a crowd pleaser...

70's stuff gets everyone on dance floors... younger crowds like teens to 30's 90's hip hop.
