Paying a babysitter/nanny

Paying a babysitter/nanny

So, I told my job that I wanted to be a SAHM. They didn't want to 'lose' me completely, so we worked out a deal...I am no longer a full-time employee, but a consultant for the firm. I will work 16 hours a week from home, and 1 full day a week in the office.

For the day in the office, my niece who is 22 will watch Ryan from around 7:30 am - 2:00 pm. From 2:00 - 6:00 my husband will be home to watch him.

I want to pay my niece fairly - the same as I would have paid a 'stranger' to watch him. What do you think a fair pay rate is? I'm thinking more than a regular babysitter, but not as much as a full time nanny? Does anyone know what the 'going rate' is for childcare?? Thanks!

I am not sure of an answer but congrats it sounds like you worked out a great deal with your job so you can be home with your little one and still work!

Babysitters actually get paid pretty well these days. I'd say $10 an hour would be fair...?

I'd say $10-12 per hour is fair...the baby is still so little, so he'll require more 'care' than a toddler.

Also, make sure you have a back-up plan for a nanny on the days you are expected to work from home. Nothing will stress you out faster than if you're on a deadline w/a project and Ryan is screaming and needs you.

Best of luck! I hope it all works out for you

We are paying our sitter $50/day. (Keep in mind that it will be a 4 - 6 hour day, depending on Patrick's schedule each day.)

I second what Claud said. I deal with a freelancer who has a 4 year old at home with her and nothing is more difficult than trying to have a conference call with her when her daughter wants a drink, wants to use the computer, wants her to play a game. I mean, honestly it takes twice as long to get things done on the call and it isn't really fair to anyone.

I think $50 a day is fair to watch the baby for a few hours.
