Paying for Bridesmaid Dresses?

Paying for Bridesmaid Dresses?

It seems I'll have to fork over money for my 3 bridesmaids' dresses (3). I thought it's tradition for the girls to buy their own dresses but my MOH said in the Chinese tradition the bride pays for the bridesmaid dresses and the bridesmaids will pay for their own alterations?

Has any asian bride heard of this?

BTW, who pays for the bachelorette pary? The MOH said that since she and the bridesmaid are paying for the bachelorette party that I'll have to pay for their dresses? Eh, I don't mean to be ignorant on etiquette so I must ask.

I do not know chinese tradition, HOWEVER I am not paying for my girls' dresses...

I am not sure of Chinese traditions but I did buy their dresses. It's not tradition or anything for me, I just felt that since I asked them to wear a certain dress that I should pay for it.

Thats what my mom told me too and that's how all my cousins did it... so I'm paying for all of their dresses, makeup and hair. Anything to avoid family drama. They will be taking care of their own alterations and shoes. As for the bachelorette party... I thought the bridal party is suppose to plan and pay for it.

I AM NOT paying for my girls dresses. I'm buying them gifts, paying for their makeup, paying for 30 minute massages the night before the wedding and giving them a bridesmaid luncheon. If that's not enough then I don't know what to tell them.

My FH is Chinese. His sister in law did buy the bridesmaid dresses, BUT they had a traditional Chinese wedding. if you are having a more 'American' wedding they should pay JMO
