Paying for hair and makeup for bridal party

Paying for hair and makeup for bridal party

Was just informed by MOH of the expectation that the bride pays of the hair and makeup of the bridemaids. I thought I only had to pay if I made them look a certain way, but I told them I will leave the hair and makeup choices up to them. With that said, she came back to tell me that I needed to book them a hair and makeup person. I did not budget for this! Please help me find a hair and makeup person who does good work (I do want them to look good!) but will not make me broke. Thank you in advance for your suggestions. please post or FM me your recommendations and their pricing. Thanks!!

What??? That is NOT your responsibility. If you wanted to them have specific hair and make up, I could see that. But if you're not, then this is not your responsibility! You should not be bullied into spending a LOT of money when it's totally not your job.

You don't HAVE to pay for their hair and makeup, some do but it's not mandatory. I have a large bridal party where some of the girls are getting their own hair/makeup down elsewhere, so I'm buying them gifts instead. I'm using Kelly from Glam Me Up for makeup. I've used her twice and she's great and reliable. Definitely would look into her.

Im paying for half of the girls hair which is $65 so I am paying for $30 and I am not paying for their makeup. I thought paying for half was fair enough.

I definitely agree that you dont HAVE to pay. I had individual conversations with my bridesmaids and I asked them how they felt about getting their hair done, if they would be willing to pay for it. All of them said they would definitely pay to have it done, so I did my best to find the best rate and best bang-for-your-buck hair stylist. I have chosen to go with Fire Monkey. I almost didnt even investigate her because of all of the rave reviews on LIW, I assumed her prices would be astronomical. They were not! Very reasonable, she comes to your getting ready location, and I loved her during my trial. She added a second stylist when I told her my expected number of girls at no charge. I did not have to put a deposit down, just sign a contract which can be edited up to 45 days before the wedding.

Now make up I haven't booked yet, but I am not sure about it. I dont think I can make my girls pay for both services, and I am not in the place to pay for any of it. I think I will have a make up artist and tell them they are welcome to use her or not.

You are not obligated at all!!! Some brides may give the gift of paying partial or the full cost. I managed to find a hair person who was very reasonable. I didn't want my girls paying over $100 for hair. Jacqueline from Bridal Styles is awesome. You should give her a call.

i would say you are definitely not obligated. i never expected that when I was in bridal parties.

i will probably subsidize some of the girls' hair, since i need to hit a minimum for my girl to come out to the venue, and also because i have quite a few from out of town.

you do what you feel comfortable doing and do NOT do anything that makes you uncomfortable!

Agree with this friend, feeling comfortable is the most important.

What the other girls said. You are not obligated to pay for their hair and makeup. Some brides may choose to gift their bridesmaids by paying partially or fully for their hair and/or makeup. I might pay for the girls makeup, and have them pay for their hair if they want to do it with the stylist I booked.

I paid for the hair for my girls for 2 reasons: I wanted everyone to have their hair done and I wanted us all together hanging out while getting ready.

You have to realize some girls might have financial problems or they might have another hairdresser they prefer.
You are not obligated but talk to your girls and let them know your expectations.

I have 9 girls, and I am 100% not paying for their hair/makeup. They all agreed to do hair at the same place so we can all hangout, and makeup is optional for them. If they want to do their own makeup they can bring it to the salon and do it there. I will be covering the tip for everyone for hair, but it is too much $$ to buy 9 people's hair that day.

The ONLY bridal party where my hair was paid for was my sister's because it was my extra gift for being MOH. Maybe if your friend made that comment you could just cover her hair for that day, since the MOH should get something a little extra on top of what the bridesmaids get.

You are definitely not obligated to pay! Weddings are expensive and your girls should/will understand that! Usually they will get their hair done with the bride and pay for it themselves OR get their hair done by their own salon (or wherever they want). OR you can pay for your sister(s)/MOH hair and makeup.

Thank you for the support ladies. I am trying to balance that comfort zone at this time. I'm looking around now to see if there is someone who can do their hair at a reasonable price and I will look up your suggestions as well. I think I will talk to each of them and I am open to subsidizing the cost or paying for the hair since I think they might be covered as far as makeup is concerned. Thanks again!!

I have been in many weddings and I have never had any bride pay for my hair and makeup.

This, I've always just assumed I would be paying for it as part of my duties as a bridesmaid!

YOU GUYS ROCK - I was thinking that it was up to me. My moh was asking me because she was in other weddings and the brides paid for her.

Yeah, Id be checking up on just about everything this MOH tells you is 'expected' of the Bride!

Edited to add: OMG! this is my 1000 post!

LOL!!! Thanks Karin. She just told me that she does not want me to go broke so she just wants me to give her feedback on my final decision. I am waiting to hear from 3 salons in the neighborhood and by Friday, I will know if I am *comfortable* with the charges for a a hair blowout. Then I will have a makeup artist and hair person for myself and I will just let them know what this person will charge - then they can take it or leave it and they can do their own makeup. Ok and I will also let them know about this other lady and her price quote that seems reasonable at $60 for makeup application. Thanks for helping me find a backbone! I also need to look at the budget so I don't drag myself or my FH into a deficit!!

You definitely do not have to pay for your BP to get their hair/makeup done. If you do pay for one or the other, it's extremely nice of you but definitely not expected. I paid for my girl's to get their hair done but it was my decision to do that.

Wow - I've never heard of that! That's a little brazen of your MOH to say that Nonetheless, I mean, that's a lot of money. Don't worry. I'm sure your other bridesmaids know that that expense falls on them!

ETA: That could always be part of your gift to your MOH then!
