paying for the band's meals

Original post by SummerBride06

hey all-

i was told by a recent WM bride that WM actually does give the vendors food, and you don't have to buy a meal.

honestly, i'm not planning on paying for their meal anyway, since they only offered me a third off the price, which i think is crazy.

how do you all feel about paying for the vendors? to spend over $1000 to pay for food for people that you are already spending thousands on seems ludicrous.

answers/suggestions please!

ETA: well, my dilemma is solved!

i just booked the times square orchestra and he said to absolutely not pay for their meals because it is a waste of money. he said they are allowed to eat at the cocktail hour, and they don't need me paying a lot of money for their food. so that saves me a lot of $$$$$$!!! yeah!!!!

he said this to me without me even asking! i suggest you all flat out ask before you pay $500 for your band's meals.

We are paying for meals for all of the vendors that are remaining at the reception- it is the right thing to do and quite frankly, I don't see how anyone would not feed the people that are working all day long for their wedding.

I am using some vendors who were on 'the list' given to me by The Venetian and those vendors eat FREE. My photographer (www.timjoyce.com) is not on their list - (he is amazing and is coming up from Cape May) so I will have to pay 1/2 price for his meal. I am a bit perplexed why these establishments who are making big bucks off of us anyway feel the need to squeeze a few bucks more out of us!

i used to work at a catering hall and the funny thing is is that there is always extra food anyway, and that is the food that goes to the vendors... sometimes they dony even get to choose which meal they get- they just get to choose from the leftovers... if the vendors werent getting the food, it would still be left over and just end up in the garbage... imo halls should only charge 1/4 price that we are paying to cover the actual meal that the vendors get... because the vendors arent even getting all the courses that the guests get... just the main course... it is really frustrating when you think about it... just another way they are scrapping more money out of our pockets!

I don't think that's a very nice thing to say

Everyone does something different. We're paying for our own wedding, and quite frankly, don't have money for extras. We're going budget as it is. I'm a hard sell--I've talked thousands off the wedding as it is and am getting what I consider to be great deals because I talk them down hard core. If I'm shelling out several thousand $$$ on their talent, they don't need me to spend more.

Please re-read what I wrote--he FLAT out told me not to buy them meals because the reception halls always take care of them and it's a waste of money. I don't see how that's not taking care of someone. They don't need a $70 meal that's not worth $70 anyway (since they're not enjoying the party). If people want to spend extra money for no reason--go for it! Do whatever makes you happy!

They'll eat, AND they'll be happy! No one will be mad at my wedding!

I also paid for my own wedding. We fed the vendors- all 12 of them.

Let me ask you this: if you were doing a job for someone- 12 hours long, would your hunger vary depending on whether your client paid, or if their parent's paid?

Believe me, I know how hard it is financially and I sympathize with your financial burden. But, it really isn't an excuse for paying for someone's dinner or not paying for someone's dinner.

IF your vendors said that they don't want you to pay for their meals, than THAT'S a good reason for you to save the money and not pay for their meals.

eta: I just saw your second post. probably Bri didn't see it because most people don't read all of the responses before replying. Add it to your original post and everyone will definitely see it.

i dont mind feeding them its just he fact that full price is much! we are paying them enough then we have to spend more so they can eat. you are lucky she said that.
