I've noticed a few of you paying vendors in advance of your wedding day. Isn't anyone the least bit nervous about that? I'm using Variety for my DJ but I only gave them a $200 deposit, with the balance due in cash on my wedding day. Same thing with my RH. I paid them $1000 in October, I owe them $1000 in April, and the balance about a week before the wedding.
Any thoughts? I'm just wondering if I'm doing the right thing or I should be paying them in advance.
TIA! Christine

Re: Paying vendors in advance
Most of my vendors I will pay within three days of the weddings. I will pay the DJ the day of.

Re: Paying vendors in advance
I am not paying the rest of my vendors until day of - RH the week before.
Actually, I think flowers will be a bit before the reception, too
But everything else will be paid day of- limos, photog, DJ, etc.
I am not paying anyone in full ahead of time unless it is absolutely necessary (ie, buying the flowers, prepping the food)

Re: Paying vendors in advance
the reason why i'm starting to pay some of my vendors in full in advance is b/c i don't want to have to worry about paying 15 different vendors weeks before my wedding; i just want to get them out of the way so i can focus on paying off the reception hall, which is the most expensive.
i'm really not worried about it b/c i make sure that my vendors send me a receipt and update my contract.

I wonder if vendors will take a credit card if you pay in advance?

That's why I'm so torn about this. I have my income tax return money now, so it would be nice to pay off some things. Looks like I'll just have to save my money and rely on self control!

it's totally your call; i don't think it really matters either way b/c everyone's gonna have to be paid at some point.

Re: Paying vendors in advance
We wanted to start paying vendors off too so we don't have a huge balance as we get closer but I'm def sketchy about it. I'm just gonna make envelopes at home for each vendor and put the money away as if I was paying them off so I know I have the money there and will add little by little

Re: Paying vendors in advance
We have paid our RH 10,000 since last March then 2 weeks before we owe them the big check.
Our DJ told us we pay him in full that night, we just had to sign a contract saying we are using him.
Our videographers we put a downpayment on, but we broke it up so we owe some money in July, then the rest on the day of the wedding.
Photographers - one we are paying whenever we want/ can - he is realy working with us! then the rest on the day, and another we are going to pay him the day of because its a friend of my moms.
Limo we put down some money, and owe them the rest that day.

Re: Paying vendors in advance
well according to our contracts most of our final payments are due a month in advance (like the florist, DJ, and limo). Like the other girls said, we don't want to deal with paying huge amounts of money the week of or the day of. We want everything out of the way before the wedding day. The only thing we want to worry about are the tips.

Re: Paying vendors in advance
Its much safer on your end to wait till you absolutely HAVE to pay them. The only thing we are paying majority in advance is the hall.
IMO for other vendors... keep your money protected, you really NEVER know if for example 2 weeks before the wedding you can't get through to your florist and they went out of business or something... doors closed, no contact and you paid in full.. Then you are TOTALLY screwed. If you pay the least amount then you know in some (unlikely but possible) situation you have your cash and can go elsewhere in emergency.
FH and I opened a savings account just for the wedding.... so its there when we need it... NO TOUCHING unless its wedding related! :) I think this is the safest way to secure your money

Re: Paying vendors in advance
I'm waiting especially photos! My SIL paid her photographer in full before the wedding and it took her 1 1/2 years to get her album! This is something that I'm worried about.

We did the same thing. We put our money and the money my parents gave us in there. We aren't paying any vendors in advance- I would prefer to make the interest off my money than the vendors.

Re: Paying vendors in advance
I'm paying off as much as I can now so that I don't have to worry about it later.... plus I'll know how much extra spending money I have.

Re: Paying vendors in advance
most of my vendors required a deposit and 4 weeks before the wedding the rest of the money. The florist required the week before and the hair and makeup artist are day of. Im not to worried some of the vendors are on this site and others had good reviews. I dont want to stress carrying 1000s of dollars on the day of. Most only accept cash on the day of. My photographer required 2/3 due before the wedding then 400 when i pick up proofs and another 500 when i pick up my album

Re: Paying vendors in advance
We are paying off vendors in advance. I dont want to even have to stress with the tips the day of, let alone all these major bills. I plan on having everything paid off a couple weeks before the wedding
