Seems like no one can do or say anything anymore without *somebody* crying they have been offended! It was just a performance, and they were just costumes!!!!!!!
ETA -- If anything, I was more offended by Andre3000 being an As-hole when he accepted that first award by not thanking anyone -- especially the fans who helped make his a$$ rich!

WOW.. I didn't even hear about this one... I agree with you about people needing to lighten up. Some people are just dying to be offended. Seriously. It gives them an excuse to hear their own voice.
And my God... during the Super Bowl there was a half second of breast on the screen.. oh no... the world is coming to an end!
Then again.. aren't breasts the first thing that most of us saw way back when? It is was OK during dinner time then.. why not during the Super Bowl?!! ... LOL

I have to disagree. Why shouldn't the American Indians make a stink if they're offended? Everyone else does at the drop of a hat. There have to be boundaries.

Yes, there has to be boundaries. The problem is that people are making a stink about everything at the drop of a hat. Someone will always be offended by something they see, and if we keep forcing people to cowtow to the easily offended, we'll be heading backwards towards a puritanical society. Sometimes people read too much into things and then demand that other people conform to their idea of what is appropriate behavior.

That is true as well... You make a good point that I can't debate.. But I guess the question becomes.. what are the boundaries?
There's so much gray area invlolved that it's very hard to tell. Let's say we're both French.. what you find funny in a French joke, I might be horribly offended by.
Thank you for making me think. (Even on a holiday!... LOL)

I know this thing about OutKast was just a random example someone posted...But really... Who's to say that the Indians shouldn't be offended? (P.S. I'm not a Native American...I just feel it has to be all or nothing.)

I just don't think it's fair that everyone keeps saying that people should lighten up...
I want to know then, when does it become okay to be offended and then voice the fact that one is offended?
ETA: Who should be the judge of that? Really?

Re: People need to lighten up.
I think its more about people jumping on the bandwagon. One person gets annoyed or upset and everyone else gets annoyed and upset. I think its the country we live in. People can voice their opinions but sometimes it goes a little to far. OutKast wasnt trying to offend anyone.... Give me a break.

It's one thing to be offended, but quite another to demand an apology because you were offended. I guarantee you that not every Native American Indian was offended by that performance.
If I said that I was offended by something you said, truly offended, and demanded an apology, would you give it?

Exactly.
There definltey is a fine line but people are just going nuts with the 'I'm offended' cries. Any '-ism' - without a doubt - should be addressed.
People offended by the way someone is dressed - or not dressed - is bordering on the rediculous. That's a personal opinion or preferance and does not need a committee to voice that opinion. IMO.

IMHO, i htink if this whole Janet Jackson thing didn't happen this would not have been brought up. Especailly since it was both on the same network.

I do see what you're all saying...
I'm just posing the questions of when does it become okay to voice the fact that one is offended? and who is to say that it's okay or not okay to voice that?

Re: People need to lighten up.
I already answered that. It's always OK to voice your opinion and state when you're offended, but that does not give anyone the right to demand an apology for their perception of an event.
