I live in RHode ISland, so this may not be helpful....

FH and I live in a 2 bedroom Apartment in an Apartment Complex...we have 2 big bedrooms, a decent size living room, and dining area and a kithcen, its not as big as I would like, but it is big enough for 2....

We have a balcony, heat, gas and hot water are included...so is free basic cable..our apartment complex also has a pool....not a gated entrance and no assigned parking spots...

Our rent just went up $30 to $865

Re: personal question

don't know how helpful this will, be since we're in San Francisco, but we pay $1475 for a one bedroom apartment (a fairly small one bedroom) though it includes laundry, a basement and free dsl.

Rent was $1600 when we moved in (2.5 years ago) but we asked for a rent reduction last year.

I live in downtown jersey city - so a lot of young professionals aka yuppies! live here - we pay $1200 for a 2 (small!) bedrooms, large LR w/ fireplace, large kitchen , decent bathroom and high ceilings. But it is expensive bc we are SO close to Manhattan, the train, the mall, a few parks......still...i'd rather be paying a mortgage!

Re: personal question

Again, this might not help because it's MA, but we pay for a huge one bedroom apartment in an amazing complex $1100 a month.

$900. for a large semi-basement--down 5 steps) apartment--it has a large EIK, a large bedroom (king bed, full bedroom furniture), and a medium sized living room. It is in a private house in Whitestone

We pay $1250 for a one bedroom in the Silicon Valley, CA. And thats a heck of a lot cheaper (about $600 less) than what we paid 2 years ago when we first moved in.

Re: personal question

YIKES!!

I guess my hope to move to NJ or LI to be closer to the family (either mine or FH) is a LOOONG ways away...

But I think your cost of livingis lower if you pay lower rent....

Re: personal question

we pay $1155 for a comfortable sized 1BR in midtown. of course it's a rent-controlled sublet so..... not really reflective of actual prices in the neighborhood.

good luck in your hunt!

When we rented (we just bought the house) it was $1000 a month for a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, living room, dining room, kitchen with full basement

Re: personal question

we pay about $1700 for a 2 bedroom (very large), living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 baths with a balcony and garage. It's expensive but great until we get a house.

Re: personal question

We pay $2300 for the first floor of a two family house in Manhasset. There are two bedrooms, one bathroom, a garage, large living room, a small sunroom off the kitchen and a finished basement.

We are being ripped off, but my FI commutes to NYC and Manhasset has an amazing train line. Also, it is very rare that there are rentals in the town. Finally, we have a dog and two cats. So we were in a bind.

in Forest Hills/Rego Park...$1500 for a 2 BR...great location on the 12th floor...loved that with a view on the ESB

in the LES...$2600 for a 2 BR - brand new interiors

then in Flushing we had a 3 BR duplex for $2000...it was way too big for us...

now we pay $1850...but in San Diego...2BR..garage...pool...hot tub...fitness center...movie theater...pool hall...club house...everything you could ask for...

Re: personal question

We pay $1000 for a 2 bedroom fully renovated apartment with LR/Kitchen combo and a brand new bathroom. The second bedroom we use as an office, but it would be perfect for a child since it is smaller than our bedroom. Kitchen is REALLY small, but it's good for us. All utilities and cable are included. We pay for Optimum Online and our phone bill.

Re: personal question

When I rented (in Queens - Astoria - so you pay for commute to NYC), my one bedroom was about $1050 and it was kind of small small. My second apartment was a 2 bedroom and was about $1500. It was a decent size (not huge - not small but I had a dining room which I always wanted).

We are paying $800 for a one bedroom (upstairs of a house) in Nassau County. It's nothing great but FH and I are there together only on saturday's and sunday's. It's defin big enough for us. We were more concerned about money. We lucked out to find this apt for so cheap.

Re: personal question

Before we bought our house we rented a tiny two bedroom basement apartment in Setauket for $1000 per month. It was a tiny livingroon, a kitchen/dining combo, but more than two people could not fit in the area. Two small bedroom with no windows (which was illegal but the landlord didn't care).

I can't believe we lived there for 18 months with our kids!!! I don't know how we survived!!
