Re: Personal question.....

bethsiar - i ditto everything you say b/c i may have to use the same rationalization too!!! Trust me, it's all gone through my head! That is why I have been avoiding Kleinfeld's for fear i will fall for the $6000 dress and then have my FH fall off the face of the earth when he heard what i spent!

Just wanted to add that Demetrios has a lot of beautiful dresses with detachable trains.

Re: Personal question.....

you may want to look into having a dress made, it may make you happy, and most likely will cost less than 5K. check out Karin Yngvesdotter Couture

Re: Personal question.....

Holy Moly!!! I can't see spending more than a $1000 on a dress you are only going to wear for 5 hours. (nothing personal-I am just broke!) Mine was $600 and came with a matching shawl, it is a Symphony dress. There are ton's out there, just keep on looking! You will eventually find it! Good Luck!

Re: Personal question.....

My dress is a Diamond Bride gown... I think it was originally $2400, but I got the sample at half price!!!

So... after alterations and stuff it is around $1400

You can definitely find a gorgeous gown for less than this, this just happens to be the one I found and fell in love with.

Re: Personal question.....

Laura- lol-- I know what you mean about your FI! Luckily mine knew how much I loved my dress and as long as he's not paying for it, hes OK with it. Its not JUST a dress, because like I said you will see it in every moment of your wedding and will be wearing it in every memory. Its truly not something you should skimp on, but do your best to get a sample or sale!

Re: Personal question.....

jar823 - hahaha! Don't get me wrong. Me saying i like a dress for almost $3000 and am seriously thinking about buying it does in no way mean that I can afford it!!!! I am broke too! AND I am $10,000 in credit card debt! (d'oh!). So I will keep looking but I just need to hear your helpful opinions. And to know that it is possible to find it just may take a while. O.K.

Anyone ever thought about RENTING a dress? Where would I go to inquire about that? Anyone know? Just a thought.

Re: Personal question.....

bethsiar -
I can not agree with you MORE!!! I always said that the one thing I will never skimp on is my dress....I have to look at it in pic's and video for the rest of my like. After alterations, veil, headpiece etc....mine will come close to $5000 and I haven't once looked back from the decision!!!
(Even though FI thinks it was half that!)

I can't wait to wear my dress and feel like I am wearing exactly what I wanted.....

Re: Personal question.....

I had a Demetrois gown w/detachable train. I loved my gown. I spent around $2400 for my gown, headpiece/veil and a cape. That being said, I never went to Kleinfield's out of fear of finding my dream Reema just waiting for me and whispering my name as I walked thru the store. I think you need to set a budget that feels right to you. It is something that no one else can tell you 'yes, this is the right price range' or 'no, you need more $$'. If you want to spend under $1K- there are MANY options. It depends on what makes you feel beautiful and happy.

Re: Personal question.....

Yay! I am so glad you both agree with me! I thought I was going to get criticized with that comment, but really your dress makes such a difference in a wedding and it shows when you spend more. I never realized it until I shopped at 14 different salons! It's not just a dress you wear one day, its in portraits at everyones house, in your own house, it's sooo key!
And Laura, you can rent a dress, I know of a place in NYC, I will look for the name of it.

Re: Personal question.....

I went to look at dresses Feb 22 and the one place I went too all there dresses were way under 1000 and they were big name designers. I saw one dress that would normally go for 2000, this place was selling it for 900. I then went to a second place where all there dresses started at 1600.

It depends on where you go, but definatly shop around

I am going again March 22 to 2 places in Brooklyn.

Alina - this site looks good! i haven't read the fine print but i will tonight. I always say 'wish i could make my own dress' so why not give it shot! P.S. what happens if it doesn't turn out the way you wanted?

Re: Personal question.....

I went to Asini Bridal on Queens Blvd.

If they dont have the dress they will order it for you.

What I really liked is if I find my dress at one place, I can go to Asini Bridal and tell them this dress here is the style number and they'll order it and handle everything. They also do not charge for alterations on the bride.

I know a few people who bought there dress through this place and LOVED everything. Its a small place, but the service is amazing.

I didnt see anything I liked there, but I am going to go back to them when I find my dress and have them order it and do everything through them.

I tried on: demetrious dresses, ginza collection dresses, and looked at some St. Pucci dresses in a magazine (just curious as to how much they would charge). They didnt have the dress in stock but looked it up in there book and they sell it for 900 dollars. All the bridal dresses there was under 1000.

Re: Personal question.....

I ditto everyone who said the dress IS important. This was one thing that stressed me out completely. I kid you not, I tried on about 40 dresses and went to about 8 different places. I just could not find the one dress that had everything I wanted. I definitely recommend trying different styles on. Ones that you just could not picture yourself in, you just never know how it might look on YOU. I ended up with a Maggie Sottero dress - DION, it cost $1K with a maching shawl and purse. I will probably end up spending around $2K with alt, accessories, veil, etc. But most importantly I AM HAPPY!

Mine does not have the button rhinestone things on the front (thank goodness)
