Personal question.....

Re: Personal question.....

I purchased a Badgley Mishka for $4,000. Although I think my dress is absolutely beautiful and worth every penny, if I had to do it all over again I would not pay as much. Why?? Because I do think you can find a pretty dress for less. In fact I went to RK Bridal and although my dress is by far more impressive, I would have been just as happy with a $2,000 dress I saw at RK Bridal after purchasing my dress from Kleinfelds.

Just be sure to shop around!

I so agree with Bethsiar!! I paid about $4200. for my dress and while I agree it is alot of money, I do believe it is so worth it! You really don't just wear it for five hours, you will be wearing it in your memories forever, not to mention your pictures and your video. And we all know that it is the first thing everyone looks to see at a wedding, is the bride's dress! If I could have found a dress for less that I thought was of the same quality, I would have went for it, but after I found my dress nothing compared!! What to spend on a dress is a very personal choice, we all prioritize this differently.

Re: Personal question.....

My dress was just over $4000 w/o alterations. (Since it's made-to-measure, I'm hoping I shouldn't need too much in alterations.)

I just tried on gowns that I liked w/o giving the cost a thought. If it flattered me, then I looked at the price. The fact that it's cut to my measurements and not just ordered by size (which would guarantee lots of alterations) makes the cost worth it to me.

I have no regrets.

I had the reverse happen to me. I fell in love with a dress that was over $3000 but when I went to the salon and fell in love with my dress it was $660 and then she knocked it down to $600. I was thinking of getting 2! j/k on that part. But seriously, either way you have to be happy with it. Make sure you have no regrets. Good luck!

My dress was 750, veil 230 (cathedral length with austrian crystals), headpiece 275, shoes 60. That's 1315 so far. I still need a purse, a crinoline and alterations. My dress is from Mary's Bridal and is very elegant. Gorgeous beadwork, too!

Re: Personal question.....

My dress was around $1000. I was lucky because I set my budget at $2000 and the dress I fell in love with was 1/2 of that.

My dress itself is 550 and I think it looks like a designer dress.

With alterations, adding Swarovski crystals all over the dress, and adding a few yards of silk for the train, the dress is around 12K. I absolutely love the dress, and am very happy. However, when it's over, I have to do something else with this dress...either sell it, or just put it on a dummy and have it displayed in a room or something. It sounds stupid, but I know a friend who did that, and it just looks so nice (it's in a spare bedroom).

Kathy116,
I love the way that looks. My cousin is doing that with my grandmother's dress (it's too small for any of the cousins to wear it.)

When we were in the market for a home, I went to this one victorian. The owner had an old dummy with a gown and all. It looked great!

BTW, do you have a pic of your gown? It sounds beautiful! I'm a big Swarovski fan/jewelry collector.

Re: Personal question.....

After alterations my dress was close to $3000. It was a $5000 Reem Acra that I got for $2500 from bridepower.
It was also the second dress I bought, so if you add in the deposit I lost, I paid about $4300 for the dress and then another $200 or so on all my accessories.

I wore my dress from 12 in the afternoon until 1am in the morning and I didn't want to take it off. Now that the pictures are back, I have ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS about my choice. Whether you wear it for 5 hours or 10 hours or whatever, the pics wil last forever, and I know if I hadn't gone with this dress, I would have always looked at my pictures and regretted it.

That being said, I did see many beautiful gowns in the $1500-$2500 range and I've also seen brides looking just as stunning in a dress that was less than $1000. It's your choice and your budget. There's really no 'right' or wrong, as long as you spend what you can comfortably afford.
