Personal question...wedding gowns

Original post by jill13bean

My parents are having a hard time coping with how much my dress is even before fitting sand everything that goes with it....

I want to know if I am ... I have heard worse
The best advice is from other brides going through the same thing

How much was your wedding gown before alterations? after alterations?
Where did you get it?
Do you have a picture?

her is mine It was $3000 before anything... I haven't gotten to anything else..
We all fell in love with it... Mom, FMIL and FSIL

If this is the dress you love then why not offer to pay for anything over what they are comfortable with paying. I would not ask them to spend more than is comfortable for them, but there is no reason you cannot help! Or if they insist on paying for the dress AND they are offering to pay for other items for the wedding, reduce one of those budgets.

I can tell you from being on these boards for almost 4 years that once you fall in love with a dress nothing else will compare or make you happy. i have known girls who spends days and days on the search for gown #2 to save a few bucks and they always come back to their first loved gown.

this is a good lesson for any future brides-to-be: Never try on a gown that is above your budget. Don't even chance it. it never fails- almost always you want the gown that you cannot afford.

Here's mine. I bought it on ebay for about $200. It was a custom made 'vera wang like' dress. lol!

If you love it AND can afford it then why not. Everyone has a different budget. In general, I think you should think about what you or your parents can afford for the entire wedding and then decide. This is a fun question because you can look at other wedding gowns but other women can't help you decide. For some women, $500 is a lot, for others $20,000 is fine. There's no right or wrong.

$3000 is tooo much for that dress. I'm sure you could find it cheaper elsewhere. I swear these bridal stores charge wayyyyy too much for their dresses.

I already got the dress and it is not too much... it is one of a kind
it is a Yolonda Couture exclusive line....not many bridal shops can order fromm this line

My mom & sister fell in love with the dress (as well as I) as soon as I tried it on. We looked at the price tag afterwards, but my mom didn't give it a second thought. She loved the way it looked on me. Sold!

The dress cost a little over $4000 w/o alterations.
$4500 after alterations.
I initially tried it on at Bridal Couture in Manhasset, but purchased it from Bridal Reflections in Carle Place.

Honey, order what you want. It makes me laugh hysterically when I hear parents flipping out over what dresses cost. They got married freaking 30 years ago, of course things change.

Anyway, my Mom bought my dress. It was kind of an emotional thing. she said... I can't have you buying your own dress, I'm giving you away, I'm buying your dress! Lucky for her, it was $1100, but we got it for $800 and change, I can't remember exactly. Bottom line though, get what you want... it's your day.

This is what mine looks like:

That dress is Yolanda Couture right ?? Absolutely unbelievably GORGEOUS !!! - And in my opinion, worth every single penny !! - I just ordered my Yolanda gown from bridal refelctions - I actually got to meet the designer today- she's SO young ! And she was awesome !! -Unfortunately, her gowns are very expensive and almost impossible to find (for less money) I say GO FOR IT - I was fortunate enough to have my mom give me my gown - SHE actually picked it out and I felt guilty about the price until she told me flat out - She said I had to have the dress. she knew I would never have asked her to spend that much - And she could do it, so she did. - If your parent's couldn't do it for you. they wouldn't -
And my gown is for 2005 so they tell me - SO of course i can't find a pic ANYWHERE !!!

Here's mine...I haven't gone to try it on yet so I don't know how much it is. It's a Maggie so I'm sure it will be average for a wedding gown.

This is most likely the dress I am going to get. Burtons in Melville has it for $850 so I think I am going to get it there. I actually just tried it on again tonight at the Bridal Suite in Bayshore ($1,040) and I love it.
