The jury has reached a verdict and it will be announced at 4:30. So will he get life in jail or death? What punishment would you like to see?

I'm actually disappointed that he got death bc I think he's getting the easy way out.
I agree. They'll give him a lethal injection.
Yes, but it will take many many many years until that injection is given...so until then, let him have the 'wonderful' surroundings of state prison...his fellow death row inmates I'm sure will give him a warm welcome!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't call it the easy way out but I think he would suffer for a longer period of time if he had to spend the rest of his life behind bars. And I would like to see him suffer.

I hope he meets the world's largest man but they'll probably put him in protective custody.

people on death row are by themselves, no?
I don't agree with the dealth penalty- it doesn't DO anything for society...
I think it's a culturally unevolved behavior.

I have mixed feelings on it. One might feel he may deserve to die bc the crime was so heinous (sometimes I feel that way), but at the same time who am I or any individual to say whether a person (no matter the crime) has must die. Isn't a person who sentences someone to death indirectly causing a murder? How is that any better than the person who committed the crime? I honestly don't know how I would feel about it if my loved one was killed. But right now, I can't say that I'm 100% in favor of it. The death penalty is so subjective.

My mom told me they said on the news no one has been executed in California since 1978 and death row inmates cannot get visitors.

I AM GLAD HE GOT THE DEATH PENALTY
and to those who believe that the death penalty is the easy way out
WHY do criminals and their defense attorney's try to have the ruling reversed?
If it is the easy way out they would WANT IT!
PLUS...Peterson getting the death penalty is the best of both worlds... 1. he will be on death row for MANY years before being killed, if he actually does get killed 2. THAT SOB DIES! Wiped off the face of the earth so the tax payers don't have to pay for his very existance

Agreed!!! Besides, to keep him alive increases the chances for a change in law later that may allow him to get out and/or allows him many years of possible escape. He should die for what he did, no doubt about it. I'd like them to bring stoning and hanging back though - lethal injection is WAY too humane IMO.

Stoning? You mean giving him a joint?

It isn't a question of what he wants- it's a question of how as a society we treat others- whether they are deserving of that behavior or not.
Money isn't an issue either- it's not about 'tax payers money'... that's a very dangerous line of thinking- that someone's life isn't worth 'paying for' and therefore they must die.
The way I see it is- all life is equal- no matter WHAT you do with it- and no one has the right to end another- whether that be Scott killing Lacy or the State killing Scott- at the heart of it all, it's killing.
It's not a deterent- it doesn't really do anything to the convicted.. his life is over whether he's in jail for the rest of his life or executed- so when you strip it all away- the State is killing this man to make people feel better.... and, while I understand that it might make Laci's parents FEEL better for a second to have Scott executed, I just don't think this is a behavior an evolved culture would do- it feels like a throw back to cave man days to me.
I guess when you hear reports of executions in other 'third world' countires they seem so barbaric to me.. but then, just because our method (lethal injection) is nicer, does it make it any less barbaric? (i.e. Taliban killing people in the middle of a soccer stadium?)

Re: Peterson sentencing to be announced at 4:30
I thought I wanted him to receive the death penalty...seemed that after the horrendous crimes he committed, it was the only fitting punishment. But after reading up on it so much...I realize that it would have been better for him to rot in jail, among other inmates who would 'take care' of him....let him think and think and think until maybe one day the realization sets in that he is NEVER leaving and he has destroyed not only his life, but many others.
In death row, he sits in his own cell with his own bathroom. He inevitably, after many years, will have a lethal injection and that is that.
I want him to rot in prison and be made to dwell on his sad, disturbing life for the rest of his days. Let him suffer like his wife and baby did. What a sick invididual. It really makes me so sad.

I'll be honest... I wanted him to fry at first.. now I have changed my mind.. multiple decades in jail is harsher to me.
If he does have any soul or heart.. the guilt will eat at him everyday of his life.
I am just surprised that a jury of 12 people could agree on this. Our group seems quite divided.. Interesting, to say the least.

Re: Peterson sentencing to be announced at 4:30
I could be wrong, but i believe the jail he was going to be in keeps inmates in their cells for 23 hrs a day. Initially i wanted him to become someones b%tch in jail and really suffer, that was my idea of the cruelest punishment for him. once i heard he would only be out of his cell for an hr a day, I changed my mind. I am thrilled that he got the death penalty. I dont think he deserves 3 squares a day. He is a calculated, manipulative murderer and will one day meet the real 'judge'. my only regret is that it will take many years before he is killed. I dont think we can compare third world country executions to a case like this. in these countries they are executing someone for far lesser crimes than murder, let alone murder of ones wife and unborn child. While i believe our system is far, far, from perfect, I do respect this decision. JMO

1. It isn't a question of what he wants- it's a question of how as a society we treat others- whether they are deserving of that behavior or not.

1. It is a question of what he wants...If the DP was the easy way out, HE/Criminal...doesn't have to fight the sentence? Making it a decision HE makes...
2. IMO it is about money...We as residents of a city and state have to pay taxes that support the facilities where these people are kept...and yea it might be harsh but I don't think it is money well spent keeping serial killers or people who have committed heinous crimes alive...And where people like Peterson is concerned...I WOULD CHOOSE NOT to spend money to allow someone like him to breathe...
3. I guess this is where we fundamentally disagree...I don't see all life as equal...I don't even consider them as humans AT ALL! And as such, should not have our privledges.
4. I am not hoping or wishing the death penalty to be a deterent...just a means to an end! An end of a life that is sooo needed...
And what exactly does keeping them in jail doing? What good comes of it? Especially if it is SOOOO undesirable and thought of as the worse option... We keep them in these big facilities...for WHAT???? Time to go by?
and: I guess when you hear reports of executions in other 'third world' countires they seem so barbaric to me.. but then, just because our method (lethal injection) is nicer, does it make it any less barbaric? (i.e. Taliban killing people in the middle of a soccer stadium?
Are you really going to compare the Taliban to the lethal injection???? People were tortured by the taliban and its followers....the dying by lethal injection...is NO WHERE NEAR the same
