Same as many posted above--sweetheart neckline and aline. The ballgowns made me look like a wedding cake!

im petite (4'11'), but I have curves (i have a 32 D bra size)....
my dress is in my album - something i never would have picked for myself.
also, those dresses that the emroidery comes up in the front - when the dresses get altered the point goes up and it would have been right at my va jay jay, lol.
I didnt look good in the dresses that gathered on the side.
I would just go try on try on and try on!

A-line are flattering to most body type.
Why don't you go to a store that has a HUGE selection and try on every dress? No kidding.
You don't have to buy at that store but at least you get to try how dresses look on you.

When I tried on ballgowns I felt like they swallowed me up, so I went with a mermaid. But the magazines say only tall people should wear mermaids and alines are best, so who knows. trial and error are the only way to know because every petite body is different. Have fun trying on dresses though!
My friend is just 5'0' and probably about 105 lbs, and she went with a mermaid. I've heard that same thing that shorter girls shouldn't wear mermaid, but that dress was MADE for her. It looks so amazing.
At the end of the day you just have to try everything on, even if you think you won't like it.

A-line very simple and elegant with french pleats on the sides......it is so beautiful.

I am wearing a Maggie Sottoro dress, I absolutely love it. It's fitted to the hip and then slightly flares. I tried some other poofier dresses but I almost fell over in them. LOL

I'm short! 5'2' Don't let anyone talk you out of a ballgown....I found that a dropped waist really helps to elongate a petite girls torso, adding height.
