Hey ladies,Was wondering how many of you have pets? If so, cat or dog and did you get your pet with FH or had them prior?

Me! I have a chihuahua/yorkie named Brandi. She lives at my house, so I didn't get her with My FH. He has Roxi, she's a pitbill rescue who I definitely consider my own.

Do you feel like having a pet is restricting to your relationship or things you would like to do? FH and I are considering getting a pet but I am so on the fence...

2013 crashing! I had my dog before I met FH. After we started living together we got another one. Both are girl French bulldogs. I'm a bit of a homebody so is the FH we love relaxing at home with them. They're the best! But if you wanna travel a lot it may not be a good idea.

We are homebodies too. That is FH's reasoning haha

We have a 5 year old rottweiler/border collie mix named Kyra. FH had her for about 8 months before we met. While I love her very much when we lived in an apartment complex I hated having a pet. It was such a hassle for me to take her out multiple times a day and I felt bad she could not run around freely. Now that we're in a basement apartment with the backyard I think it's much better for her.
I will say it can be a bit of a hassle if you go on vacation and have to board them (because I feel guilty/sad). Also, we don't have the luxury to go out and decide to stay over a friends house if we drink too much, stay too late, etc.

FH and I got a Havanese puppy together almost a year and a half ago. His name is Carlos and I'm more than a little obsessed with him haha he is just the cutest thing. If you're a homebody then it shouldn't be too big of an adjustment, FH and I travel a lot so and it's frequently spur the moment like 'oh wow cheap flights, we're going to vegas next week!' kinda thing so that had to change once we got him. We still travel, but we have one of our parents watch him or we board him and I feel extremely guilty every time. FH doesn't feel guilty at all, but I will call twice a day to check on him, I may be a little overly protective lol. He is our baby and I love our little family <3 having a dog is the best!

Aww! If we do decide on getting a dog Havanese is one of our choices. Our other choice is a Portuguese water dog. FH has allergies and we need a hypoallergenic breed. We live in an apartment complex so we are not sure if we want a larger breed here because we just don't think that is fair but we really want a PWD so we would have to just decide what would be the best bet. I fell in love with a Havanese years ago and wanted to get him but was still living at home and we had 2 dogs already-How are their temperaments? Anything you can tell me about the breed? Thanks!

Between us, we have two cats. My cat we actually found outside when FH and I lived together a few years back. He was a stranded kitten in the rain and FH rescued him for me :) And his cat is actually a cat I fostered for my local SPCA and I thought he was just the coolest cat and FH agreed and adopted him.Our furry felines are our babies. And I'm a foster for the SPCA so sometimes we have a few extra babies around!

I don't think the dogs hinder any aspect of our relationship since we still both live with our parents. However, my future sister and brother on law have three shin tzus and their life revolves around the dogs. They had one dog for a year, got another one las Aril and then another one two months later. They don't go anywhere and refuse to go onvacation. She takes 'fur babies' to a whole new level. When she got the second dog, she texted everyone in the family and said they have a surprise for us and to come over ASAP. My poor FMIL thought they were finally having a baby. When we got there it was a dog!!! She knew better the third time around.I think it's easy to not let having an animal control your life. It's totally your choice and how they are trained. I know we will definitely have a dog when we get a house and get settled!! We love animals--in fact, FH rescued an tortoise that will be bigger than our children and definitely out live us. Maybe we'll have a petting zoo in the backyard =p

I have a maltipoo named Chloeanne. She's almost 7. She's totally my baby. She has her christmas picture taken ever year. (Photo in my US album) I had her before FH. In fact an exBF bought her for me. The only good thing that came of the relationship lol. FH loves her. When we move in together she's coming. She's hypoallergenic because I'm allergic. I can't imagine my life with out her (or a dog in general)

I grew up with Great Danes so it was a bit of an adjustment for me to get used to the idea of having a small dog. I always said that small dogs aren't 'real dogs' but that was before I met Carlos and fell completely in love, now I can't imagine life without him. He has the most amazing temperament, he is a total mush, and they're known as 'velcro dogs'. They're famous for loving unconditionally (as are most breeds I'm sure) and seriously want to be with you all of the time. Right now as I'm typing this Carlos is snuggled up on my lap with one of his toys! He's over a year old but we still crate him when we leave because he LOVES his crate and I just feel better knowing he's not roaming around the house.
One thing I had to get used to, which I think is true of all hypoallergenic dogs, is the constant grooming. We like to keep his coat short so we take him every two months. When it gets longer I brush it everyday to keep from matting. It's just an extra expense to think about, but you might not need to go as often seeing as it's personal preference.
Carlos is by far the most quirky dog I've ever owned. He seriously has his own little personality and its hilarious to watch him walk around like he owns the place. He actually decides when we wants us to go upstairs and lay down because he'll go get his toy and run to the stairs, then back to us, then back to the stairs, and then he'll run up and wait outside our bedroom door for us with a look that says 'what took you so long??' He is always making us laugh and we can't imagine life without him! I highly recommend the breed!

We got adog together last may (who is the love of our lives)...It hasn't changed much of our routines except sometimes when we have all day affairs we have to get someone else to walk him (we have family and friends close by) and its not often so people don't mind.
When w went away over the summer we just had family and friends rotate dog sitting.

She is fine. The longest i leave her without anyone is ten hours if i can't get home to let her out. I try no longer then 8 though. They sleep the whole time your gone. I just give her a lot of attention when I am home.

When I moved out of my house, I left my 14-year old cat with my parents. It was just better for her to stay there, but I was so sad to leave her! Then this Christmas, FH adopted me a 4-month old black kitten even though he's allergic! We are both ridiculously in love with him! His name is Comet. One day we want to get a dog too (we both had dogs who passed away in the last 9 months), but right now, Comet's plenty.

We don't have one right now, but we plan on getting a dog when we move in together - probably after the honeymoon.

I've wanted my own dog since I was living with friends in college. When FH and I moved in together, he told me for my bday, he'd help me adopt a dog. When we started looking, and realized that we're both gone for sometimes up to 8 hours (at the time we were both working basically the same shifts at different restaurants), we decided to get 2 pups, so they'd at least have each other while we were gone.I know that we have to plan our schedule around walking the dogs and making sure that they are fed and happy, but it really hasn't affected our lives too much in a negative way. We LOVE that they're a part of our new little family, and they make us so happy.
We recently went on our first real vacation of 4 days since we adopted our pups 2 years ago. We usually ask my cousin or his best friend to stay at our apartment and take care of them, but it's usually only for a night. Since it was longer this time, we boarded them. Hands down the most heartwrenching experience of my life. I called the guy who owns and runs the place at least 4 times a day just to make sure that they were ok. It was kind of like how first time mothers are when they leave their baby for the first time.
I'd say if you're prepared to make sacrifices sometimes, and not go places, or work your schedule around theirs, go for it. Some people just aren't ready for that, which is perfectly ok too. Just don't get them before you're ready. I have friends who did, and the one who suffered was the dog, not the owner.

I had 3 chihuahuas before we started dating. actually one of the first times he came in my house my male dog bit his ankle :) now he loves fh so much, it's funny remembering that years later that's his little buddy.right before the hurricane my friend needed someone to adopt this adorable b&w cat so we got her, she's I guess our official animal we got together in a way?
I also have another cat but she keeps to herself 99% of the time. if anything I wish we could get another dog together but 3 is good for now. fh really wants a lab one day. my chihuahuas are my life though they are such loyal and sweet dogs I can't imagine living without them. seriously our living room has tons of little chihuahua statues my dad collects (we live with him) and every year my dad gets me a new chihuahua ornament for the tree. I also plan on our wedding day taking one of my dogs to fox hollow (the hotel) to get her in some pictures. even our ceremony she is mentioning the dogs in a part of it lol. we are home a lot and they all cuddle with us on the couch as we watch tv/movies. and all 3 sleep with us every night.
