I saw Phantom of the Opera last night with Lbf404 and our DHs. I loved it overall. I thought that it was incredibly well done in terms of the sets being very similar to those in the show. I was not thrilled with the Phantom's voice, but thought his acting was suburb. Christine and Raoul had amazing voices (and Raoul was not at all bad to look at!)
There were a few minor differences in the movie, which I don't want to spoil for anyone, but they were mostly minor things. The story as a whole stayed true to the show.
I don't know how much those who aren't Phantom fans to begin with will like the movie. I am very biased, b/c I have loved that music since I was a little girl - it's one of my favorite shows.

oh good! i was hearing mixed reviews on that - i'm glad you enjoyed it!! Hopefully I'll see it soon - It's my favorite!

I don't think there's any reason you shouldn't see the movie. You certainly don't have to have seen the show to enjoy it. I'm just wondering how much people who aren't already big Phantom fans will like it, since I was so biased going in. If you do see it, let me know what you think!

YAY! DH said we can go Christmas night. I can't wait. I've listened to the movie soundtrack on Rhapsody, and I agree, the Phantoms voice isn't that great.

My mom and I are going to go see the phantom of the opera and proberly my sister too. I saw the play with my sister a couple of years ago and I loved the play. now i want to see the movie to see how good it is. thanks for letting me know about your thoughts on it.

I love Phantom and I'm glad to hear that you gave it such a good review. Newsday's review was horrible and my friend and I had actually decided NOT to go....now I think I might change my mind
