If you traveled internationally did you use your cell? Did they charge you a fortune? Or if you went to sandals do they charge a lot to use the room phones?

Re: phone and honeymoon question
If you have verizon, you can rent a phone during hte duration of the trip. all you have to do is pay for each call...the rent is $50 but you get it back when you return the phone.
I've done this many times and it has been very easy.

I do have verizon and my blackberry is actually international ready. Do they have info on their website?

Re: phone and honeymoon question
My bb broke on our wedding day so we brought DH's regular cell phone (we have AT&T) but it didin't work ANYWHERE! We could get online but couldn't text or call. I suggest calling your provider and getting temporary international (I think they pro-rate it for you) and if you have a bb DEF bring that. It seemed like those were the only people who had phone usage.

Re: phone and honeymoon question
you can change your verizon plan to international for the time you are there. If you don't you will be billed each time you have a data usage (if an email comes in or you go online).
We converted one phone to international but never used it. We checked our email a few times from the hotel and emailed our familes so they knew we were OK.
The phone was for emergencies only and we never had to use it

Re: phone and honeymoon question
I did when we were away (we were in Jamaica) because I had a lot of family things going on and had to keep in touch with everyone at home. It costs a fortune!!! It took 3 months for my bill to come back down to normal. The first bill was over $300 and the second was over $200. Lesson learned...never again...

Re: phone and honeymoon question
we had our BB's upgraded to international. It was prorated, so we only had to pay more for the time we were away.
we made a few calls - the rate was $1 a minute so it came to around $60.
we were in australia.

Re: phone and honeymoon question
If you have a phone that uses a SIM card (like tmobile phones for instance) you can get your phone UNLOCKED.... then you can buy a SIM card from the country you are in.
I did this when I was in Italy and Egypt and it allowed me to use my phone at local rates.
Essentially you will pick up the international carrier and your SIM card will carry a specific denomination to make phone calls. I believe $25 was the least you could buy minutes for.

This is exactly what we did.

Re: phone and honeymoon question
my blackberry is NOT global so i rented a global one....you can even get a calling plan if you want so the calls are cheaper. I never used it..
Communicating by e-mail is FREE and unlimited. only have to pay for texts and calls. Like i said, didn't make any calls but did send lots of e-mails and updated my facebook status from Scotland... when i returned the phone, they credited the $50 and it ended up being a wash.
Good to have in case of an emergency!! Also...the phone number was my same phone number from here...not an international number.

Re: phone and honeymoon question
We were away on Thanksgiving so we wanted to call home since both our immediate families were having Thanksgiving together. Called from the hotel phone (Sandals in St. Lucia), call lasted 16 minutes, charge to the room was $52.
