i met with 7 photogs...F i n e A r t was one of them...

i think it was pretty standard for most of them to charge around 20 or more per extra image...

i agree with you though that its tough bc how can you know how many pics you will want before you even see any of them

i dont really know if its normal to add it in before but i know that patken feels strongly about this, which is why they recommend choosing more pictures after the fact. their average cost is $22 per pic (range from $15-32).

BTW they are starting at 30 pictures in the album which is NOT a lot. The owner told me that his brides choose an average of 150 pics for their album which is VERY telling of his business practice!

i am probably going with duet though because they were straight up from the beginning. i know how many pics will be in my album and dont have to worry about paying more later.

edited to add this: to the patken brides, i dont mean any offense- i really liked their pictures and style- they are obviously talented. i was just turned off by the # of pictures in the album.

just about any photographer you meet with will put either a number of pics or # of pages for an album in your conrtract. and yes, it is normal for the photographer to charge you for more pics for your album. we used patken, and our album included 50 pics. we stayed with out 50 so we wouldn't have to pay anything extra. my MIL added 20 pics to her album, and it was quite a bit more $$ for her to add them, but she wanted. i can only speak for patken, but if you do your album within 2 weeks of picking up your proofs, the extra prints for the album were 50% off. HTH.

we had a traditional album, and the extra cost comes from them needing to print out more actual prints, and more actual pages for the album. when they charge you for X amount of pages and prints, they know what their cost will be. when you now decide you want to add 20 pics and 10 pages to your album, it just doesn't make business sense for them not to charge you $$ for more than what was anticipated. i'm not sure what the cost for extra pages in a digital album would be since we didn't do that.

as for patken, we customized our album choices, and they gave us a price based on what we wanted. we knew it was possible we may want more than 50 pics in our album, but we figured we could always make another album when we got the CD. it really wasn't hard to narrow it down to 50 pics for us. 150 pics would have been way too many for us. if you do decided on more pics for your album, then after seeing your proofs you want less, they can make it up to you in other ways like enlargements or more pics for the parent albums.

My photographer is charging me $1200.00. $600.00 deposit & $600.00 the day of the wedding. He is giving me a hi-res disc AT THE END OF MY PARTY!!! With rights to do whatever I want with! He gave me a place to do my thank you cards & prints......turns out it's a professional photo lab where many of these photographers go. I found out I can get my albums done there also. My cousin did it and saved BIG $$$$$. If I want I can go back to him at any time to do my albums & whatever else I want. However, I think I'm going the route my cousin did.The best thing is I don't have to lay out all kinds of $$$$ before my wedding for things I not sure I'm going to need.
