I just got my contract from my photographer and the schedule of payments he has set up is 25% down now, the week before the wedding another 65%, and then when I pick up my proofs the last 10%. So I will pay the entire amount before receiving any pics. I was wondering how your payment schedules are set up. I'm a little apprehensive about having the whole amount paid before getting my pictures. Is this standard or should I ask him to rearrange our payment schedule so I pay some of the money when I receive my pictures? Thanks in advance....

From what I remember it was standard to have just about everything paid on your wedding date or at the latest the date you receive your proofs.
The 25% deposit sounds a little high unless they are doing some upfront work like engagement pictures or your wedding date is real close. You might try to hold off on the larger amount until the day of.

Hi-
I just booked my photographer, so it's still pretty fresh in my head. We had to put down $400. We pay another $1,000 30 days prior, then pay the balance of about $800 when we pick up our proofs. We are using VIP Studios. 25% seems a bit high to me too....good luck with it.

We made 4 payments of 25% each. The first 25% when we booked, 25% one week before the wedding, 25% when we got our proofs and we have to pay the other 25% when we order our album, which we have yet to do(sometime this month for sure). I thought this payment schedule was more than fair.

Our total package came to $2495. We put down $450 to reserve the date and photographer. Our next payment of $1150 is due on or before the wedding, and one-half the final payment (~$450) is due with the proofs, and the balance when we get our albums.

My photographer payment is great. We pay $400 to reserve the date and 80% when we receive the proofs and the remaining cost when we get the albums. I'm with you I do not like paying in full for things before I get things. Which is something I had to get over when paying for a wedding. Most vendors want their money before the event in full.

Since we are using the same company for video and photo we paid $500 to hold the date and the largest portion on the day of and the balance when we get the proofs.

Our total package was $3000. We paid $500 upon signing the contract, $1,700 3 months before the wedding (at the time of our engagement shoot)and the $800 balance is not paid until we are compeletely satisfied with our albums.
