I'm not sure that that budget is possible...maybe if they just take the pics...and give you the roles of film...but I don't think a lot of professional photographers...b/c they are responsible for their 'image'...but you could try calling around
my suggestion would be to check out college students...look for schools that have a good photo department (I know SUNY New Paltz has an excellent one - maybe Purchase too?) You can see if you can get a student who would be willing to do it...(they get experience)

Re: photographer question
Check out Hi-Lite Studios. I forgot where they are, try to do a search. Some people are using them. I saw they had an add in the pennysaver for photography starting at I think $495 - but I have no idea what that includes.
He can probably do something for you in that range. He'll adjust a package, but not quality, to your price. So, it will be a very basic package, but you won't be chancing the pics of your big day with non-professionals. Oh, and he will travel.

Re: photographer question
I agree with Jenbaby but I have to say that some people are not trying to skimp - they simply just do not have the money to spend $3,000, $4,000, etc not matter what but they would still like to have photos of the wedding. Photographers never used to be this much including bands. People never used to have to pay $8000 for a band - they are really getting ridiculous b/c you know the band members don't see that - the booking agent gets it.
If you do have the money I would say not to skimp. JMO

Re: photographer question
I agree with the girls above but if you speak to certain photographers, they might be able to work with you with your price. I am using Marcy Studios in Brooklyn.
