What is the average price for a good photographer on LI??? I found one that I love, mostly candid photography, starting at $4,500. Is this good? Or can anyone recommend a good photographer that specializes in candid artistic photography?!?! Thanks!

for a really good photographer, i think youre definitely looking at 4,000+ if youre willing to spend the money, check out willi wong, lina jang, verdi, jamie collins and something in blue.
Mine is candid, artistic photojournalistic. I love her!

I agree with the previous poster, many of the higher end photographers start at 4K

As far as 'average' I guess it depends what the $4K includes--does it include your album, parent albums, etc? We're using Perceptions and it's around $5-6K including 3 parent albums and our album. We met with a ton of photographers including some in NYC. We just liked Perceptions' work better. It was artistic photojournalism but not over the top.

We're about to book with Something in Blue. I really liked the husband and wife team and their portfolios were amazing.
There packages start at around $3000, but they do not include video or any sort of albums. Their philosophy is that it's better to create the album after you see your proofs, which makes a lot of sense to me!

we're using cappy hotchkiss. she does amazingly beautiful work!
www.cappyhotchkiss.com
she charges $4300 for 8 hours shooting with an assistant. you get about 1000 proofs but albums are not included.
we also met with raquel reis (www.raquelreis.com). she also does incredible work. it was a tough choice. she charges just a little bit more than cappy.
i've looked thru their portfolios in person and they are truly stunning. hope this helps.

Whoaaa!!! $4k seems a bit steep, no? We are using ADA Studios for photography and Video. They are highly referred by many and they are the house photographer for the Watermill and the East Wind. We are paying no way near $4k for both Pics & video. I'm sure all those other photographers are well worth the $$$ but if you would like to save some and still have beautiful photos and a video that is like a fairytale then look into ADA. They are listed under Vendors on LIWeddings. Whatever you choose, I am sure your pics will be beautiful! Good luck...

I think $4000 is about average, dependng on what you're getting. The package we want from Artisan Photo is about that much.
I also met with Proline, their prices were a little bit higher and the work was good, but I really had a lot of problems with the way they run things there. I did not like the fact when you go to vieew albums you're just looking at 'staff' albums, not one particular photographer..among other things. I loved Artisan because the owner, Chuck shoots the weddings, and all of the work you see is HIS, and he does a great job abd has an amazing attitude and really consistent work, unlike some other studios. FM with questions.
I'm really passionate about the whole photo thing, being an amateur photographer myself, I notcie things other people don't. Prices vary so much, and a lot of times there are big variables. For example, if it's shot digitally, that saves a LOT of money on film and processing and it's easier and cheaper to retouch, add color, black and white, sepa, etc, but you lose the depth and richness of film. Some photo packages include an assistant and/or a second photographer, whereas some do not, also look at the size and quantity of albums and ask how they're printed. Some of the work from the digital studios looked like it wa printed out on my inkjet at home, so really pay attention to the quality of the work when you're booking. I'm sure there are a lot of great photograhers out ther for every budget, you just have to decide what you want

We are also using ADA Studios....I guess it depends on the package you choose bc we are paying close to $4500 for both photo & video. We did however pick one of the top packages

i recommend gary leli-his work is between 2500-3500, and he offers a lot for that price. i found the same thing though, that the going rate for photos is pretty high...good luck!

Christine is great! I feel really comfortable with her and know she does outstanding work. I booked her a few weeks ago for my '06 wedding.
