I am looking to find a photography that shoots in film, provides proofs and negatives and offers albums by a la carte pricing. My parents and his parents don't want parent albums, we are doing framed collages instead. Every photographer we go to seems to only offer packages. We love photojournalistic work.
We have seen:
Cousins photography - loved them, but $3,600 just to shoot your wedding
Duet - liked there work, but I got the impression the guy didn't understand me, and I didn't understand him. That concerns me
Angelica Studios - Did not like his work, too pushy and only concerned with $$$
Perceptions - Loved Anthony Vasquez's work, but he only has packages
Spelman - Too artsy
Can you see I am getting frustrated!!!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much!!!

Silverfox is all digital, but they have a alacarte. You can ask, they may do film on request, but check them out, it is high quality digital.
They give you digital files & printed proofs & everything is a la carte.

In all honesty, I was at Starlight Express last night and they share a building with Silverfox. I already booked my photog, but from the work I've seen it looked good, but I didn't meet with them so I'm not too sure about them being a factory or what kind of a la carte or pacakges they have.
I've heard good things about Patken. I've heard some good things about Deja Vu as well, but some deem them as factories as well.

Re: Photographers that offer A La Carte Pricing
We booked with Patken and I was drawn to the a la carte pricing..we don't need any of the standard packages...so this was much better. Plus I love their work and our e-pics came out very nice.

Does Patken shoot in film? Approx. how much do they charge? Do they use 1 photographer or 2?

I would check out Artisan. I saw package prices, but they seemed very flexible, so I'm sure they would do something a la carte

Re: Photographers that offer A La Carte Pricing
When I was on 12th night's website it sounded like they only shoot 300 or so pictures, or they only provide 300 or so proofs. One of the two.
Check out Studio 307 (Joseph Mancuso). He's in Long Beach and its a husband/wife team. They do film photography, with a proof album and negatives when they are done with the albums. The have packages (VERY VERY VERY reasonable compared to others) and a la carte.
they didn't seem like a factory to me, the guys were really funny and personable, they took thier time, let us look at albums and videos, met us for a late appt that fit our schedule, even got us coffee from dunkin donuts. They were very regular, interested in what kind of wedding it would be (more beachy than classic, etc)......

it depends on the package you pick from them i am going with them and getting a minimum of 1,000 proofs.
i think the package you are talking about is for the additional photographer (photojournalist)

I believe they shoot on film...notes are home and can't for the life of me remember what they said exactly (we booked early in 2004). They use one photographer but you can request a second for a fee. For me there was no point in getting a second photographer to do the photojournalistic shots - their style seems to already incorporate that quite a bit and I requested that as a preference. Since you build your own package there is no way for me to give you an approximate cost.

that's just what they will print out for you, not ALL of the pics they take. they give you cd's filled with hundreds of images, then you can print as many as you want.
proofs and total pics are not one in the same.

Marianela Vera sounds perfect for you...her info can be found here (and she's SO reasonable!):

Hey Karen, You might want to check out Photography by Verdi. Their work is incredible but unfortunately were a little bit out of our budget. We're using Imagine Studios. Their work is outrageous but I believe they only work with packages. I don't have any of my paperwork here at work so I really don't remember. Check them out though.
As for Deja Vu - I wasn't really that impressed with their work. They are just getting into shooting in a photojournalistic style. It's a bit of a factory - they have a bunch of photographers and then they match you to the one that best suits your needs. Their prices are considerably less than any other photog I looked at. Silverfox does more photojournalistic work than Deja Vu but I still got that 'factory' feeling. I really won't bash their work - it was nice. It just wasn't for me. Hope this helps!!
