Do any of you hang photographs going up your stairs?
I want to do this, but not sure on they style. I had thought I wanted to do only b&w photos, but then we got some of the portraits we ordered from our wedding and they are in color. I love the pics, and just like how the color 'pops'. I could hang them elsewhere in the house and continue with my b&w idea up the stairs. Or I could have a mixture of color and b&w, but not sure what the effect of that would be. What do you think?
Also do you think I have to have the same frame for all the pics? I was thinking of having all different one's, but semi related. Like in my living room I have a ton of pics, all in different frames but they are all brushed silver, so I was thinking the same idea for up the stairs. What do you think?
One last question - for those of you who have b&w hanging in your house - how did you frame them? I have seen b&w photographs matted with a white mat and then a black frame and that looks nice too.
Sorry for all the questions, TIA.

Re: Photographs up the stairs?
I don't have stairs in my apartment, but I lined an L-shaped hallway with frames - museum style (thick white mat with thin black frame) - it looks great.
One wall has all color photos from places we've visited and the other hallway (2 walls) has alternating color & b&w photos of friends and family.
I think clusters can look busy if there's no uniformity - JMO - so I would do either all b&w with one color frame (can be different) or mixed b&w & color photos with the same frame. But that's jmo...I don't really like match-y things but for some reason I leaned toward that with the photo groupings.

Re: Photographs up the stairs?
My parents have photos going up the stairs at their house - they are basically all different frames and they are color - but I've always loved the way it looks.

Re: Photographs up the stairs?
EDITED: I took a couple of pics of the picture wall today - see below
We have photos up the stairs. Originally I wanted all white frames (diff sizes and shapes but all white). We ended up buying maple colored frames (diff sizes but same shape) and they look nice, but I think I might want to switch to all white - or at least paint the maple ones white (but the maple match the floor..)

Kelleherkm- I love what you did with the moulding/column around your dining room - Do you have any other pics? I have hi ranch too and would love to see how you did that better. We are looking for a way to break us those rooms a little more formally.

Re: Photographs up the stairs?
Sure I think I have more pics, let me look OK here are a few - some are from when we first moved in. We have the columns and then in the DR we put up chair rail and wainsciting and painted it a green-ish color. The LR is painted a beige-ish color and doesnt have wainscotting.

Thanks!! The green is actually a custom color we had mixed at Aboffs (it's Benjamin Moore paint). So it doesnt have a name. I could take a picture of it close up in daylight and you might be able to get a close match to it. Let me know, maybe send me a FM.

Thank you so much My DH is up in the attic right now getting ready to put a ceiling fan in today. Next project is refacing the kitchen cabinets and then extending the deck. Seems like there is always more to do!! But it is fun.

Re: Photographs up the stairs?
Can you please tell me how you did those column things that seperate one room from the next? That is a great idea! It is just sold in pieces and then you paint/stain it and then mount it? Or is that sold in one piece? It is just such a great detail!

My husband bought one column and cut it in half and then he made the bottom molding out of different wood (shoe molding, quarter round molding, 5 1/4' stock - this all means nothing to me LOL) and the top is just the top of the column and then cown molding on top of that - the crown molding is the same one we used throughout the LR and hall (but its different than the one we used in the DR)
I hope this helps. Here are a couple of close ups and one full shot of the column.
