Photo/video 101

FH & I are ready to shop around for photographer/videographer. Obviously, we're looking for professionalism, excellent customer service, and amazing pics - all without breaking the bank!

Since we're clueless, what are some suggestions/recommendations you girls have...

Also, What are some important things we should ask and negotiate in our contract?

(also, what is the average $ for a wedding package)

TIA

it is really hard to determine the average price. The thing about it is also depends on what you what in your package, that would help more if you explain that bc it is easier for someone to tell you around what price range it would be for what you are looking for, and of course it can vary greatly from photographer to photographer

well alot of them include an e-pic shoot just so you know. And also some places offer 2 photographers if you want or if you want 1 you can stick with that. This you dont need to pick now but they have different types of albums that vary in price

What about proofs, negatives etc? Do you get to keep those.... do they include that or do you have to negotiate it...

Basically what info should we go in there armed with so we don't get screwed in the end lol

yeah many will give you your proofs, some give it to you on a cd.

Well regardless of what someone else will think only what you think is right and youre comfortable with spending on a photographer is the right amount. So if you dont feel comfortable paying that much then dont. Do ask about cancellation policies, if they include the e-pics, ask about your proofs, to some people it matters but ask if they take pics with digital or film but again that is if it is important to you.

Also check out their albums, and more than just one wedding, try to look at a couple of weddings they did to get their overall look they do for weddings.

Honestly, I didn't sit there and ask a bunch of questions, i just looked at the albums and just talked regularly with her and i was satisfied...but i know alot of other girls on here probably have a better list of questions to ask photographers

I always refer people to this site.

www.wpja.com

it gives a list of a bunch of photogrpahers and their price ranges.

Also try this site

www.ppa.com

I found them both to be a great resource!

I recently booked with Twelfth Night! They are sooooooo nice and Dominic, the owner, is very helpful. He explains so much and showed us many of the photographers work. I was there for almost two hours - I learned so much. And they love what they do!

From the 5 photographers I met with, the price range was from $3,000 - $5,000. They all included proofs, album, 2 parent albums, enlargements and engagement shoot (except Twelfth Night prices the albums separately).
And it was for two photographers - traditional and photojournalistic.

I second twelfth night, we booked with them as well. They work with mittermax videography, which I believe will run around $2000, we will be going with a cheaper videographer
