Picking a year and a date!

Picking a year and a date!

Hi Ladies! So I can't stop thinking about WHEN I am supposed to plan my wedding. I already feel like I want everything to SLOW down because this is the happiest time in my life but am unsure if I should be booking our wedding for 2015 or 2016. We want a Fall wedding (October) but are open to other dates depending on price, etc. I feel like 2016 is SO far away.... and yet 2015 (October) is WAY too close! How do you find the compromise!??!?!

Do 2016. People will probably comment about your 'long engagement', but it's so nice to have the extra time. We got engaged August 8th last year and I'm starting to freak out that we only have 9 more months. It used to seem so far away and now I am really stressed about finding the time (and especially the money!) to get it all done!!!

We are having a long engagement. We got engaged almost ten months ago and still have two years to go. 2016 is far away but I've found I have my choice of vendors right now. When we chose our venue, we were able to pick whatever date we wanted in that month. Our photographer was available because nobody else had booked him that far out. You really reep those benefits of having a long engagement by being able to save $$$ also. The only thing that sucks is waiting. But it'll all be worth it in the end!

I have high anxiety so for me less stress was important, so we went for about an 18 month engagement!

If possible, I would choose 2016. My engagement is a little less than a year and I feel so rushed! Giving yourself extra time is such a good idea since you can save more and book the vendors you want to book.

I would definitely go for 2016! You get your choice of date with venues plus you get your choice in photographer, dj, etc. Also, you will probably be able to lock in 2015 prices if you book soon (not sure when prices are raised for 2016). And you have time to plan your perfect wedding with hopefully the least amount of stress as possible!

This is me,I get very anxious so our engagement was about 14 months.

We decided to wait until 2016 mainly because we wanted to save money & avoid the stress. It is very nice to have our choice in vendors because most aren't booked for 2016 yet. The only negative part is waiting. Sometimes I wish I was rich so I could just get married already & start my life with him. But honestly, weddings are much more expensive than I even thought they were when we got engaged. So ultimately i'm happy with our choice to wait

October of 2015 is still over a year away! Which definitely gives you plenty of time to get things done! I think you can go either way with it.
If you go with 2015 you would probably need to start planning now but once you do the few main things you would still be able to relax a little bit. Obviously 2016 would give you guys way more time to relax and of course save money. All personal preference I suppose.

Maybe you can start looking at venues and once you guys find the one you love see what 2015 dates they have and prices versus 2016 and go from there?

WE got engaged in Aug '13...and we are getting married Sept '15. Exactly 25 month and I dont regret it for a minute. I was able to book a few things, then not think about it for a while. The last year flew! Now I have a year left and I have my venue, photographer/video, flowers, dress, dj, and limos all booked with out a ton of stress (It's always stressful, but I wasn't pressed for time on top of it)

I'm glad to see more 2016 brides! We also have had a really long engagement but I didn't want to ruin the experience stressing about money. It goes so fast. Take your time and enjoy it!

We only waited to get married because we are paying for majority of the wedding ourselves and needed time to save. We will have been engaged a little over a year by the time of the wedding. I would say go with what makes you most comfortable. Some months go super fast when you're busy with wedding stuff and some months are super slow and you get tired of waiting. If we had the money though, I would have liked to have gotten married sooner.

If you feel like 2015 is too close, go with 2016. I wouldn't compromise on the time of year you want, and realistically the two years will FLY. It will give you some time to really research vendors, book the ones you like and give you time to do things so you are not rushing and stressed and also get to enjoy some time just being engaged also, as crazy as this sounds, for October 2015 you may find yourself a little limited as to dates for venue and certain vendors, we couldn't get a Saturday in September 2015 at our venue and a few others as well, and we were looking in March.

We got engaged in February and getting married in October 2015 - that gave us about a year and a half. To be honest I kinda wish we pushed it further to give us a bit more time, so if you want to wait until 2016 go for it. Give yourself as much time as you want or need. Either way it will end up flying by and 2016 will be here before you know it!

I agree with everyone else - do what feels right for you two. If you need to save the money, or would prefer a more laid back process, definitely wait until 2016. While October 2015 is a little over a year away, that time goes by so fast! We got engaged in December of 2013 and thought it would be plenty of time before our April 2015 date, and man - it has flown by! For us, it has been enough time (because my parents are helping to pay for everything and I am a bit of a type-a list person who, once I get started, need to keep checking things off!)

It'll go fast either way, honestly, so really look at your situation and do what feels right for you.

I would wait until 2016. We got engaged July 2013 and are getting married April 2015. The time goes by SO fast, and I haven't felt rushed at all with the planning. It'll give you time too to save up and feel less stressed.

We just booked our venue almost 2 weekends ago for November 5, 2016! I think having so much time allows you to enjoy everything and be able to choose exactly what you want plus we also want a fall wedding and 2015 isn't enough time when FH and I are paying for this on our own

FH and I got engaged 2/15/14 and our wedding isn't until 5/15/16. I get stressed out very easily and since we are paying for this wedding on our own and trying to buy a house, we need the long engagement to save as much as we can! It does seem that 2016 is so far away, but just think, in 5 months it will be 2015 already! You also have more of an advantage when booking early since you can get 2015 prices if you book now. If you need to save the money, I would say wait until 2016. If you don't need to save much and are ok with possibly not being able to book a specific date you want, then go for 2015. Good Luck!

This has helped me SO MUCH! I just feel like this all happens once in a lifetime… and I don't want to rush this whole process- on top of the face I am graduating with my masters in May and that is stressful enough… then my FW wants to buy a house ASAP and there definitely is not enough money to do both! I was thinking we could start wedding plan after I graduate… that way I will be stress free and have a clear head of what we should be doing… which answers my question that October 2015 is too close! Thank you all SO much. I so appreciate all the responses and support.

We got engaged a few weeks ago and are planning for May 2016'. Of course we get the 'OMG why are you waiting so long' questions. I thought we could do September 2015 but that feels right around the corner. We need time to save and plan without a rush.
