Planning the wedding...yippee

Hi everyone,

I just started planning my wedding a couple of weeks ago and tomorrow I have a couple of more reception sites to go to and this week I will make a final decision.

I visited so far the Coral House, Westbury Manor, Jericho Terrace and the Swan Club.

I really love the Swan Club the best. But of course when we were half way home, we realized, we did not see a bridal suite or a room to take pictures if it rains. My FH was not happy with the Afterdeck (small room). The room has a small dance floor. I did not have a problem with it. I felt just because you invite 75 people does not mean they will all come. I have to revisit it this week.

I also liked the Westbury Manor. Unfortunately, our wedding party is at least 75 people and the reception room and the cocktail hour is upstairs (not on the same floor) and my father is in a wheelchair. When I asked about this I was told that he would be carried up the stairs. My father is at least 6feet tall and weighs at least 220. I don't want to worry about my father falling or if they have enough manpower to bring him up the stairs.

I liked Jericho Terrace. When you walk in, the entrance is beautiful. When we went which was last Monday, there was a wedding going on. So I was able to see how the cocktail hour was set up. I was not able to see the chapel. I was able to see the room and it was much bigger than the Swan Club, but I did not like the floral print wallpaper. I liked that the dj had a mini stage to work with.

This week, I will be going to Floral Terrace, Chateau La Mer, Stewart Manor Country Club, Crest Hollow Country Club, Chateau Briand, Caffe on the Green, Fox Hollow and Majestic Gardens.

Wish me luck ladies...

Good luck! I dont know if they changed it or if you'd be in a different room but Jericho Terrace has some difficulty accomodating wheelchairs too. I went to a wedding there last year and they had to take out a big piece of plywood to put over the steps to get my grandma up some stairs to the CH room. Then she had to be wheeled through the kitchen so that she could go in an elevator to go into the reception room. Didnt bother us that much, and she's used to it but I dont know if it would be a problem for you. The BM seemed to feel really bad and gave her this huge vase with orchids in it when she was leaving... he just took it off a table in one of their hallways!

When I went to Jericho Terrace last Monday, there was a wheelchair person there. There was a wedding taking place at 2:00pm. The BM said that they have a portable ramp. I prefer that than my father being carried up the stairs. I am still deciding....

Good luck, this part is soooo much fun. I am getting married at floral terrace. I love the raised dance floor but I do know that they have a high minimum # of guests b/c the room is soooo big. But it is only 1 wedding at a time and to me the prettiest place around
If you jave any questions about it just fm

Swan Club

Does anyone know if they have a bridal suite and if they have a place, in the event that it rains, to take pictures?

from what i've read from others, chateau le mer also does not have an elevator so maybe you may want to think about that before visiting. also, how about woodbury country club? (or did u write that already?)

oh, so since you're checking out crest hollow, u may as well go to woodbury country club (it's basically cross the street), and fox hollow is along that route also

So, you will get a relief when you finish looking and find a place. I just finished this summer and it can drain you. But, it is so much fun. The wheelchair accessible would be a priority and I agree with you I would want to make sure that they have adequate accommodations for your father. Good Luck with your hall searching.

you might want to also check Larkfield Manor which I used. It was wonderful. I put out a review in the vendor site if you want more details.
Also Harbor club in Huntington has an upstairs room for 75 and they have an elevator.

Good luck planning!! We are getting married at Westbury Manor, also w/ CH and reception in the upstairs rooms, and we love them, esp because they're a bit more private than the downstairs rooms. I'm so surprised they don't have wheelchair access for upstairs. That's very outdated of them!

hi! we are getting married at the swan club and using the afterdeck room for our reception so of course i think it's a great room :) i worry all the time that it will be too small (expecting between 70-75ppl) and then i call the swan club and they put my mind at ease. i don't believe if you use that room you get a bridal suite, which sorta *****, but i was told if they have one open on that day, they will give you one....all other brides get priority though i believe. the great thing about that room though is the bar! i love that my guests can hang out there and mingle around!

good luck with deciding on a place! enjoy this time in the planning process...once you get the hall it seems like things go into super speed planning mode!!!

HEy there!! congratulations and good luck!! you will know when you find the right place!! i'm getting married at crest hollow nad was drawn to it for the open lobby and the elevator we have several elderly people attending and the thought of them trying to make it up and down the stairs was something i couldn't see happening..

Good luck!! like the ladies said this is one of the best parts about the wedding!!

I'm not sure if I've already replied to you about Swan Club--but they are building an indoor portrait studio which I believe will be ready by this winter (you'll have to double check with them). Of course, not really the best in case it rains, but there's something. There are also 3 bridal suites upstairs. The first time I visited, they were replacing the lightbulbs on the stairs and I couldn't get up there. The next time I went, they were there and quite lovely. Each one had a sizeable bathroom (one didn't have it in the suite but it was a few steps away).
