Planning too soon?
Ok, I just need to take a poll here. I was recently talking to someone about how we just booked our venue, and their first response was, 'You did that so quickly?'Really???? I beg to differ, because EVERY place I've been to for a wedding venue is already getting booked for 2015! So, I was just curious - is anyone else getting this kind of response to their planning? This person is pretty close to me, so I was kind of surprised by this response. Thanks for the mini-vent!

Ha! Yeah I've gotten some 'That was quicks' Myself...It's usually from someone who has not planned a wedding in MANY MANY years if ever! Then I tell them, well we had a few months in mind and there were only THREE dates to choose from!!

We got engaged 5/26 and we booked 6/3!! Definitely NOT to quick. It is also a perk to book early because you get locked in for that years pricing!FH & I did a lot quickly and people had the same response to us. We booked all of our important vendors in 2012 and got that years rate which helped save some money. I could care less what any one says. We were so excited and wanted to start right away!

Ugh I'm so sick of people saying 'isn't it early to do that?'.. I booked all my major vendors within a few months of being engaged...I got my pick of whatever vendor I wanted because they didnt have my date booked! I say the earlier the better!

Re: Planning too soon?
Omg, the money saved is more than enough reason alone to book now!!!! Also - oh, I don't know - I hate procrastinating, and I might actually be excited about making plans for my wedding? I just don't get people sometimes ... Thank you ladies - your input is most appreciated! People who have been married for a while really don't understand what it's like to plan a wedding on Long Island right now! As always, these boards have made me feel better - thanks for the reassurance!!
Btw - I've already ordered samples of the winter wedding invitations I like!

Awesome! Where did you order them from? I ordered a sample from Invitations by Dawn and was sadly disappointed. FH and I found one we absolutely LOVED at Fairy Tale Affairs in Massapequa and we were all set to go with that but I just found a website that has realllllllly nice ones! ALthough it looks as though there is a long waiting list for the online ones..

Planning too soon?
Everyone was telling me I have plenty of time, but I started panicking about not getting a date I wanted. My fiance's sister is getting married in May 2013, and she just started planning it in December. I see how much she is scrambling. For instance, she found out last week that the bridesmaids had to have their dress orders in by today or there would be massive rush charges. SOOOOO, we all went out last weekend and this week and tried on dresses (we're in 3 different states), and decided through email and text which dresses we liked, and ordered them yesterday.I think we have an advantage as 2014 brides, that we can have everything we want and not feel rushed or anxious or panicked. I've realized we have to block out all other people's voices in our heads, and do what makes us happy!!

No way are you rushing through planning!!! We were engaged for almost 4 months when we booked the venue, band and church and I was thinking about other vendors too! Some people thought I was rushing, but why not plan while you have the momentum? I don't want it to be 6 months before my wedding and I'm still trying to book things. I want to be down to the nitty gritty stuff by then! I'm also glad I got 2012 pricing instead of waiting when prices would inevitably go up. To me, the sooner the better!

Planning too soon?
Ugh. I've gotten this from people... Mainly SINGLE OR UNMARRIED people. I swear its driving me crazy. I want the vendors I want. My date (12/13/14) was already booked for a few venues I had called. I was so lucky to get the venue I fell in love with! It's also nice because it gives me a little bit more leeway with deposits and everything.
I like taking my time and once I have my dj and photographer officially locked in I will feel SO much better. Now I'll also be able to relax with certain things and pick up the detail type stuff as I go along. I'd rather take my time and get my way than rush it.

Please! My wedding is almost paid off! We didn't want to put any deposits down, but pay everything in full so we didn't owe anyone toward the end. And we worked it out in our contracts, that if something were to happen, and THEY breached, we'd get 50%-75% of our money back no matter what! My planner/flowers is paid off, our venue is paid, limo, DJ and band is paid, photographer will be getting paid next week. Now we'll just concentrate on the little details and purchases. It's never too early! All the popular venues and vendors get booked fast, so jump into it!

I agree, you def. need to move fast to get what you want. I wanted Chris Lobello films and I said to my fiance, 'our wedding is 13 months away- no way he's booked. This will be great!' Only to find out HE IS BOOKED ON MY WEDDING DAY! I was so upset that a random Friday in the middle of March would book so quickly! So definitely keep that in mind.ALSO- Soon2bMrs18, did that work for most vendors? I'd like to do something like that myself.

2013er crashing!!- I started planning my 11/2/13 wedding in May of 2011. When we went to book our church there was another wedding that day already! Its never too early. I would just be careful with the invites tho. FH and I picked out ones that we liked and the girl were ordering with suggested we wait until about a month before we want to send them out. That way theres no chance of them getting ruined and having to pay for another whole batch.

I'm definitely agreeing with everyone else. I got those 'oh wow..you're booking already' comments and looks, but my date (Sunday of Memorial Day weekend) was booked for some RHs already! Keep in mind, I booked in April 2012 for May 2014! And as other ladies said, I got 2012 prices which helped save a bunch! Also, I really wanted Thomas Paul and obviously a specific photographer can only do one event for the day since he's with you from getting ready through the reception, so I felt so much better once I signed my contract with him!It will be nice to know as we get closer to our weddings that most things will be taken care of. It will give us time to focus on the details that I'm sure will be driving us all crazy and to (hopefully) not stress too much in the few weeks before our big days!

Planning too soon?
I actually took the planning 'schedule' (for a better lack of words) of my friend who basically had the exact same schedule as me and FH.They were together for 15 months before they got engaged. They were having an almost exact 2 year long engagement (engaged nov. 2011, getting married oct 2013) and she had the venue, church, dress, dj, photographer and some little odds and ends booked within 6 months.
As soon as I got engaged I went to her and asked her 'timeline' and went with it. The only thing I'll be waiting longer on is the dress.

It took some convincing, but we got everyone on board. We just told them, You have all our money, so you know WE'RE not going anywhere! We also told them, if anything changes in the next year, we'll gladly pay the difference in pricing, but not to exceed $250-$300. There had to be some compromising. And we convinced them, if THEY breached, we get at least half to most of our money back. Get it in writing!

Re: Planning too soon?
FH and I got engaged in May 2011- there were just a few comments from people asking why we're waiting so long. Also, we booked some major vendors at the end of 2011. So, we locked in 2011 prices. Our wedding is during Memorial Day weekend, which can be popular for weddings. Have to make sure you get a head start so you can get the vendors you want!FH and I will be engaged 2 years this May and it seriously feels like yesterday. Time is flying!! We're not in a rush. We're enjoying every moment of being engaged! Plus, we're getting all the vendors we want and we have time to save.
Works for us!
Just do what works for YOU and your FH- ignore all the comments

Planning too soon?
I have gotten comments mostly from coworkers about why we are waiting so long to get married. I think its better to plan earlier than later so you don't have to rush. It is only going to be a two year engagement and 6 months have gone by already! It went by so fast. Within the first 2 months of our engagement we booked the reception hall, church, and DJ. That way we can concentrate on saving money and little details.Welcome New Vendors
