Omg, the money saved is more than enough reason alone to book now!!!! Also - oh, I don't know - I hate procrastinating, and I might actually be excited about making plans for my wedding? I just don't get people sometimes ... Thank you ladies - your input is most appreciated! People who have been married for a while really don't understand what it's like to plan a wedding on Long Island right now! As always, these boards have made me feel better - thanks for the reassurance!!

Btw - I've already ordered samples of the winter wedding invitations I like!

Awesome! Where did you order them from? I ordered a sample from Invitations by Dawn and was sadly disappointed. FH and I found one we absolutely LOVED at Fairy Tale Affairs in Massapequa and we were all set to go with that but I just found a website that has realllllllly nice ones! ALthough it looks as though there is a long waiting list for the online ones..

I actually ordered my samples from Invitations by Dawn too - but only bc they had the same invite I wanted from the company we are using, and they send free samples :) I'm still pricing everything out, but we might just use the invitations that come with our package since we get a 25% discount. I have some time to decide though

Planning too soon?

When we started looking at venues FMIL said to me 'Why don't you just relax and enjoy this?' I think I saw red. Of course I can enjoy the process while looking at venues at the same time! Why can't I do both? She's since changed her tune but I guess she was expecting us to wait until after the holidays to pick our venue. Oh well! lol

Everyone was telling me I have plenty of time, but I started panicking about not getting a date I wanted. My fiance's sister is getting married in May 2013, and she just started planning it in December. I see how much she is scrambling. For instance, she found out last week that the bridesmaids had to have their dress orders in by today or there would be massive rush charges. SOOOOO, we all went out last weekend and this week and tried on dresses (we're in 3 different states), and decided through email and text which dresses we liked, and ordered them yesterday.

I think we have an advantage as 2014 brides, that we can have everything we want and not feel rushed or anxious or panicked. I've realized we have to block out all other people's voices in our heads, and do what makes us happy!!

omg I think we are related! This is exactly what happened to my sister

Planning too soon?

2013 crashing!

It's NEVER too soon! Not only is it an exciting time, it's also a HUGE relief to have every thing basically done! haha

I got engaged in June, 2011... I actually waited a few months before we booked our Church & RH (October 2011), but after that we went full speed & locked in prices from 2 years ago for all of our major vendors. Plus I was able to get ALL of the vendors that I wanted!
I also highly suggest getting all of your DIY projects & all of the little personal touches done asap.
I'm now 4 months until my wedding and all I have left to do is get church program info approved & get them printed and get our invite envelopes addressed & the final week-of details.
I am able to RELAX and I highly, highly recommend getting the majority of things done & out of the way, if you can!

So many friends and people I talk to who are married say to get everything done now! We have except for DJ and flowers. It feels good to not really have to worry about things until the wedding. My best friend got married this past November and was scrambling around for everything last minute because she thought she had so much time.

Re: Planning too soon?

I feel so much better knowing that I have almost 70% of our wedding planning out of the way because we booked a venue with an all-inclusive package!! Especially the relief of not having to spend all of this time shopping around for vendors! Omg, I hate shopping to begin with! Lol! I think the only really vendor I have to find that wasn't included in our package is the florist - and we already have a few local shops in mind for that too! I've now moved on to picking out all of the wedding day accessories - guest book, unity candle, etc. I found this awesome winter-themed set, and I am trying NOT to just buy it all now!! :) I am truly enjoying this planning time though - who cares if I get it done sooner rather than later?

I have bought SOOOOO much stuff already! FH says it has to be bought at some point so what is the difference between now or later!? It has been a relief to purchase things now because I am afraid things will get discontinued.

YES! This is my exact fear too!!! I'm also a hyper planner AND impulsive - so it's not exactly the best combination! At the rate I'm going, I have a feeling that I'm going to have a closet filled with wedding things for over a year! Lol! Oh well, here's to being prepared!

Omg I feel so behind! We got engaged on Halloween of 2012. I wanted to wait to start planning until after the holidays by I knew I would be engrossed in it. Now we have 12 months left and I've only booked the venue and the photographer lol. I still have to book the church or were gonna be getting married in my moms living room. Is it just me or is all of this a bit overwhelming?

I feel you. We got engaged on 10.12.12 & still don't have a venue! My biggest fear is we will find the place & then the church won't be available. ugh!
