for a small wedding (in a large room) do you think it would be better to have dessert served at the table or a dessert cafe in the back of the room?
Plated - okay so some people might miss it b/c they are up dancing but YEAH!- they are up dancing!
Cafe - the elder generation love this b/c of all the choices etc. BUT the dance floor will empty.

We did plated b/c the cafe really cuts the last hour of dancing off.. we wanted to dance all night long, especially after paying so much $$$ for the band.

We are doing plated because we opted for the sit down dinner so the FI said to continue with the flow.

By the time people reach dessert, they've eaten so much the vienniese tables at the weddings I've been to are barely touched. My videographer told us not to bother with it - it's a waste of money because nobody eats it. Maybe you can have a coffee bar in the back of the room for the older gentlemen to hang out?

I've never seen a vienese go untouched, I always see people swarm them like bees. That being said, it does totally kill the dancing for a good while.

The Dessert Cafe Menu at Carlye is unbelievable! That's what I voted for!

I did desert cafe and it was amazing. They set it up in the back of the room so everyone could still dance. It gets people out of their seats. I know sometimes Carlyle puts the deserts in the other room. I don't think I'd like that.

We are having a smaller wedding and will have viensese trays at the table. I don't see either one as being a problem.

hmm, trays? Like one big platter in the middle of each table with a little bit of everything on it? When the Carlyle says 'in the back of the room', which end are they talking about? Do they mean right behind the bride and groom table???

We are (as of now) going to get pastries/cookies on the table and also a cordial bar..I;m looking into renting the Choc fountain too. If they allow the fountain we probably definitly won't get the vienese hour.
I do think that people love it but its very overwhelming and I;m sure a lot goes to waste.

I voted for the plated - because I think it allows more time for fun and dancing.
That being said the Desert Cafe at the Carlyle is amazing! It is so good, but over 1/2 went untouched.

The desert cafe was in the back behind the bride and grooms table. Most of it does go to waste but what the heck!

Re: Plated dessert or dessert cafe (vienese)?
I had them put out big trays of fruit on each table in addition to the plated desserts... they threw that in for me. i think they put the cafe in the back of the room behind the sweetheart table.

Re: Plated dessert or dessert cafe (vienese)?
It was a round chocolate cake with the warm center, a berry pastry, cookies, and something else--don't quite remember. I do remember that the chocolate cake was so amazing!! Everyone at the table was going crazy for it!
Whichever you do, it will be a hit--Carlyle does a great job with both, so just choose what you like the best! Your guest will not be disappointed!

Re: Plated dessert or dessert cafe (vienese)?
so where in that plated dessert is the wedding cake? Is that on a separate plate?
