I prefer live music. I just think it adds to the energy of the party...live performers have an interaction that a DJ cannot provide. I don't like adding singers to DJs-to me and it's only my opinion-it's karaoke like.

There are many great bands out there that sound just like the record-some of them don't cost a ton. I know-because I searched long and hard.

It really depends on what you want. Don't let somebody else dicate what you want.

If you want a DJ get one. It's your day!

We are having a band they are very reasonably priced IMO, comparable to some of the higher priced djs with the extras and everything.

I booked a DJ, I think that's fine.
But if someone else was paying, I would have booked a band. I like live msuic. I would suggest it, if it's in your budget. So much more energy.
But if not, there is no problem with a DJ. People who are going to dance, will dance to anything.

well...is your FMIL going to pay for the band? Do you want a band? I think bands are nice but are much more expensive than a DJ. I had someone say that they like bands better too and I told them, well if you want to pay for a band, I will gladly hire one. Sometimes people dont think before they speak. If I were you I would be concerned with what you and your FI want...nobody else. If you try to please everyone else you will drive yourself crazy and still you can never please everybody.

I think a band that sounds like the real thing is the best!! You should check my band out...they play in bars sometimes but they are soooo awesome...I get the chills whenever I watch them.

On their website they have a schedule of where they are playing. Make sure if you go see them you see '70s experience' and not the steve strecker band ...that music is slower, more mellow. They are $6000.

I don't think one is better than the other, they're just different. For me and my FH, we decided on a band because we already had a band in mind that we love, and have known since before we got engaged that we wanted them to play at our wedding. If we hadn't known about this band, we probably would've had a DJ.

There are pros and cons to both...Depending upon the type of music you like, a DJ might be more appropriate because bands might not be able to play certain music.

I would figure out what type of music you'd like played at your wedding, and then base your decision on that.

And yes, bands are much more expensive than DJs...

You should do what you WANT and can afford. FH and I want and can afford a band so that is what we went with. If we didn't want to spend the money on the band or we didn't have the money to spare then we would have had no problem going with a DJ, or if we just happened to prefer a DJ we would have went with them for that reason also... you can't say one is 'better' than the other, it just comes down to personal preference and sometimes budget.

If your FMIL wants a band so bad then by all means, get a band as long as she foots the bill. Otherwise, IMO, she shouldn't be telling you what you should or should not have unless she is willing to help you pay for it.

HTH and either way, your wedding will be great. I'm getting married at Flowerfield and I don't look at that place and see that things have to be one way or the other-- do it however you feel. People do everything from beach themes there, Christmas themes, all instrumental music, calypso bands, DJs with light shows-- anything is possible!! The BM told me one couple even did a fireworks display!

I was originally all set to do a band because my reception site has a STAGE, and we thought it would look weird to have a DJ. Then we found out that half the weddings there have DJ's, and they said it looks fine! I really like the 'real' songs better, too... and I found a really classy, not in-your-face DJ that I've heard great things about. And, we're saving about $4,000 right there!

Honestly it comes down to personal preference! I do not like bands, Every wedding I've been to with a band just doesn't do ti for me. I don't care HOW GOOD, the band is!!! There are certain songs that can't be duplicated no matter how good they are, so I personally would NEVER have a band! Its not a money thing, it's just how I feel about it! So do what you think is best! Don't go with what someone else is telling you is better.
