Please help me feel good about myself!

I know I should be happy- I just joined a gym, but I'm so depressed b/c I feel that it's just another 'Ill do it for real this time' and it will last 1 month and I'll never go back!

I did the initial step but need some more motivation!

Re: Please help me feel good about myself!

CONGRATULATIONS !!!

Does your gym have the TV's in the Cardio machines??

I find it fun to schedule gym time aroung my favorite TV shows. Make a commitment that you will only let yourself watch those shows if you are on the bike, treadmill, etc...

Another tip my trainer gave me to make it fun:

make a grid with 10 min blocks for how the total cardio time you want to get in each week. After you complete each session color in the # of 10 minute blocks you did. Hang it in a noticeable spot at home and really challenge yourself to completely fill in all the boxes. IE, my goal 200 min/week so I have 20 ten min blocks, my 30 min session is 3 blocks. This make it a little fun to mark off those boxes.

Feel great!!! You made a big step by joining the gym, find some fun classes and ways to motivate you to get to the gym...

I also filled up my gym bag with really nice shower products to motivate myself...

Re: Please help me feel good about myself!

Pick up some fitness magazines and read the success stories you see in there. That would be a good motivator.

Also, pack your gym bag the night before you go to the gym, so you have no excuse. Just grab your bag and go. Buy yourself some cute little workout outfits too - if you look good you may feel more motivated!

Set goals - definately. Tell yourself 'I want to get down to 19% body fat' or 'I want to have sculpted legs in 2 months'. Track your goals on a calendar; mark off the days that you go to the gym and what you did so you can see progress.

Each time you work out remind yourself of how good exercise makes you feel, so that on days when you don't feel like going to the gym, you can tell yourself to just give it a try so you will feel good about yourself.

Make exercise a habit, not just a phase of life!

Also, if you want I will verbally kick your butt if you slack off. I would kick your butt in person but I live in Virginia

Re: Please help me feel good about myself!

The only way I stayed fully committed to a gym was hiring a personal trainer 3 times a week.

If you don't want to do that, what about once a week?

I am someone who needed to have that commitment to a trainer.

Azoodie2- Aspen Total Fitness in Centereach/selden.

Ann.....I might take you up on that A$$ kicking if I slack off! Thanks!

Kathy- I hired a personal trainer and am meeting him tomorrow night. He wants me to work out with him every other day and I told him that I wanted to have 1 session a week to keep me on track. He told me that he focuses on one muscle group at at time so it would be more beneficial to have him do the 4 sessions all in a week. Is this typical? How long have you been with a trainer? I just don't have the money to do it all the time! It's very expensive!
