Please Help Me - I HATE MY GOWN

Please Help Me - I HATE MY GOWN

I ordered a Demetrios gown from Macy*s in Manhasset. Originally there was a dress in Iman that I loved, but my mom (who's paying) kept pressing that it was too expensive. She wasn't really excited about my engagement or dress shopping with me. My father passed away a few years ago and she just kept saying how hard this was for her to do without him. Anyways, so we went to a few other shops and I wasn't finding anything I liked and she kept complaining that she was sick of looking. So, to make it easier for her I invited one of my BMs to go with me and she freaked that it was the MOB's job and inappropriate for a friend to go, so I canceled with my buddy and we went to Macy*s.

That night I got a dress. I didn't love it, I liked it, but I didn't love it. Problems crept in though when it was ordered. The gown had a champagne sash, which was the accent piece, but my Mom insisted that it be ivory because 'brides wear all white'. So SHE ordered it in ivory. Then as time went on, she was so happy I ordered something, I just kept telling myself that I would like it too, but I didn't.

Ergo my dress poll and comments over the past few days. I wasn't trying to be a debbie downer, and I'm sorry if I came off that way. I was just worried about the dress fitting this weekend.

And then yesterday came. When the woman unzipped the garment bag I burst into tears.

$2500 and I hate it.

Charmaine (the manager of Macy*s) was a doll. She spent probably 3+hours with us trying to help. She offered to add lace to the bottom to even out the look (as of now it's just plain silk) and decrease the sash size so I wouldn't hate it so much .... but needless to say I'm still just so disappointed. They think they can fix it so I like it better, and I hope they're right: the wedding is in May, my options are minimal.

I'm going to attach pictures of the original dress, 2 I took in the fitting room, and a photoshop job I did decreasing the size of the sash to see what it would look like after alterations.

I've been crying nonstop since our appointment at 2pm yesterday (Monday). And to make things worse, my Mom is so angry with me and keeps telling me I need therapy.

So I'm posting this to a) tell girls who are shopping not to settle, find something you love and; b) see if you guys have any suggestions on how to alter the gown or whatever else. I'm the only one of my friends getting married right now and I'm afraid they'll just think I'm bridezilla if I relay this story. I know it's the man, not the gown but who doesn't want to look beautiful on their wedding day?

Thanks for listening

i think you look nice in it!! I think the sash adds that lil something extra! Dont cry..you will make a beautiful bride!!!

Also i think leaving the sash as is the better route...it draws the eye to that tiny waist!!

IMHO.....I really think your dress is beautiful and I'm not just saying that. Picture yoursef with you hair & make-up done...jewelry on etc...

My one suggestion....maybe get a brooch to go right in the middle of the sash...that way it gives your dress a little sparkle

Hey there!!
Your dress is beautiful!!! Don't worry, you're going to be beautiful on your wedding day, I promise!
Work with Macy's to make the dress better more to your liking.
Is the dress big on you? It's looks like you're holding it in the pics....this may also be what's stressing you... you can't get an accurate depiction of the dress if it's not fitted...Hang in there, once it's fitted and you make your changes it will be ok...
I like the sash both ways! HTH!!

I was thinking the EXACT same thing! I would add a brooch (diamonds/pearl) to the middle of the sash in front for a little more 'POP' and sparkle.

It's a beautiful dress!

what about adding some crystals here and there? my cousins Mori Lee dress was the same lace and she added it and it looked really nice w/ the sparkle when she walked!

Thank brooch idea is excellent. As of right now, one of my issues is that I feel it is just so plain!!!!!!!

I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this and your mom before your wedding..

I think the dress is really lovely. Is it just the sash you hate? Could they maybe replace it with the champagne sash? I agree with some of the other girls that removing the sash would be a mistake. It adds nice detail and draws attention to your little waist!!

Try not to be too sad. Your going to make a gorgeous bride and the people at Macys seem very sweet and helpful. It's gonna work out

I was just going to say that same thing! a gorgeous champagne/sparkly brooch could add the accent that might make it better for you. I also agree taht it really is a beautiful dress- and it looks gorgeous on you. I dont get why you hate it so much?

I think the experience has you second guessing your thoughts on the dress itself. If it was a more enthusiastic and pleasent experience - things would be different now. Try not to let anyone bring you down....You mom is having a tough time right now - as im sure you are too....Take some deep breaths and know that no matter WHAT you are going to look amazing on that day!!!

Re: Please Help Me - I HATE MY GOWN

First off

Second, you are not alone in this department. I ordered my dress about 10 months ago and it came in and I cried, hated it, etc... funny thing was Macy's was the same place this happended and Charmaine helped me as I was ready to just run out of the place. She was awesome, I agree!

I ended up ordering a new dress because in the big scheme of how much money we are all spending, the dress should not even be a question or settle IMO.

I love the dress with the champagne sash and I think the one you actually got is gorgeous as well. I would try to compromise with your Mom and maybe catch her at a better time and tell her how you feel. I don't blame you for being upset about the entire situation either, so you don't need to go for proffesional help!

Even though your Wedding is in May, you can order another one, I have seen it done!

Hope it works out for you though in the end either way

I have to agree w/ all the girls...I love the dress and think it's beautiful. Personally I would have stuck w/ the original sash, not ivory, kind of washes the dress out. At this point, your mom is so upset, angry, whatever...maybe you could have Macy's get you the original sash. Or add something like mentioned above. I love it, and wouldn't add anything else. GL

sorry you feel so down. You are not being a bridezilla. I agree with pp that the dress needs to be fitted properly. It is a beautiful dress and once it is fitted to your curves I think you will like it more.

Also if the ivory sash is bothering you....you can have Macys call the manufacturer and tell them to order a new sash.....

Re: Please Help Me - I HATE MY GOWN

You guys are awesome. TY soooooo much for your help and input.

I think you are all right. Planning this wedding has been so hard since I moved back in with my Mom to keep her company and I think she's just not into it because 1) once I get married she'll be alone and I know she hates that; and 2) she keep reminding me that she's never going to enjoy anything like this again since my Dad is gone.

Talk about sucking the fun out of something. I think a lot of it is me feeling guilty and stressed about bothering my Mom.

Thank you thank you thank you all again. I will keep you posted.

Love, Debbie Downer

i really like it. I like it better with the sash the way it was rather than making it smaller. the dress is unique and very pretty!
is it the style of the dress that u dont liek all together.. were u looking for something different??!!
i know there was an 06 bride who was so dissapointed with her dress 1 month b4 the wedding she went to davids bridal and got another one.
if u are that unhappy u can alwaus sell it on ebay or something and buy another one. i know ua re pressed for time though... Good luvk in whatever u choose to do.
