Im sorry you are going through this hunny. I wish I did have someone to recommend to you but I dont...just wanted to show my support. If noone responds with a good doctor rec, let me know and Ill try to help you research online for reviews and things. There's also this site... http://www.ratemds.com/social/?q=node/8521

it gives reviews of the doctors by patients and you could look up by specialty. good luck!!!

I bet if you got a note or told your boss they'd be more understanding that you have a medical issue and you're not just playing hookie... ya know?

ITA
If you have a legit medical reason and have documentation of it, I am pretty sure they can not fire you for that.

I am so sorry that you are going through this.
I wish I knew of a doc to recommend.

What do you need a gastroenterologist? Are you anywhere near Garden City?

I agree to tell your boss privately.. and say that you were embarrassed to say anything earlier. They will definitely be more understanding about missing work if it's medical.. as opposed to them thinking you just make excuses all the time.

I remembered there was a thread with many pages of girls who can relate.. I found it through search, maybe there's some info on there that can help..

There are a lot of tests that they can do to try to nail down the cause of your problem. I suffered from a similar problem about 2 years ago, as it turns out, I suddenly developed an allergy to eggs. If I stay away from that food, I feel better. I have another friend who suffers from IBS, and he has figured that he needs to eat and take his medicine 1 hour before traveling so everything works itself out before he is in a car/on a train.

You need to see a doctor asap, and have full disclosure with him/her when discussing your problem. It might be an allergy, collitis, IBS or something more serious. The best thing to do is to find out right away, so you can begin to fix the probelm.

If you don't feel comfortable telling your boss, you should go directly to HR. You need to have something on record saying that you have a chronic illness so they can't fire you for staying out sick.

You could also probably use a stress reliveing activity or therapy to help with your stress levels. Some people have great success with excercise or group activities, which may work for you. I went to a therapist after my future mother in law temporarily moved in with us to deal with the stress, and it worked wonders for me. My therapist has since retired, but she used rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), which is basically positive thinking. I was amazed how easy it was to help myself get over stuff that was stressing me out.

FH is probably frustrated because he doesn't understand what you are going through and he can't do anything to help. Maybe try to explain the problem a little more so he understands what you are going through?

Good luck!

Please don't quote - this will be TMI so will take down at some point.

I'm home sick again.. I suffer from colitis and this is destroying my life. I worked in the city and it's impossible to take the train. The minute I leave the house, I have to turn back and make a run to the bathroom. While I'm in the house, I seem to be fine, but as soon as I leave the house am back again. This is a nightmare. I don't want to loose my job. My FH doesn't understand, so we just got into a big argument this morning. This by the way, doesn't help me at all because it makes my situation worst.
I need to see a good gastroenterologist who can put me on some medication. Right now I'm a Imodium junkie. I can't stop crying - I hate my life right now and I hate the subway system. I've been so close to having a bad episode while stuck in the subway tunnel... Please recommend your doctor. I need help ladies. I feel so depressed.

I know exactly how you feel... I have IBS/a contracting intestine, diverticulitis and allergies... so I'm an imdium junkie too
The doctor I went to was horrible! he basically TOUCHED and poked my stomach and said 'you have IBS'... I had to go to the hospital and my reg dr to find out everything else.

but my mother went to the same office I did (the dr I saw is no longer there, in fact he was covering for the dr I was supposed to see, and supposedly no longer has his license)... the office is on montauk hwy in west islip, across from good sam/st. johns hs.
Would you drive out that way?

I think you should definitely see a doctor.. he/she may be able to pinpoint certain foods that you can't eat. My sister got horrible stomach pains and she went to a bunch of doctors, she can't really have tomato sauce, spices, mints. She got tested for celiac disease also, basically whenever you have wheat products you get very sick, like how you described.
I have problems sometimes too. I recently found out I am lactose intolerant because I would ALWAYS get sick after I had ice cream or milk. I think your nerves may be getting the best of you as well, like how you're fine in the house and the second you leave you get sick. That happens to me, when I start worrying and thinking 'OMG will I get sick? Will I make it home in time? etc etc'

I am so sorry, this ***** so much! GOOD LUCK

My Brother had ulceritive Colitis, so I get what you are going through.

First, calm down. The first thing you need to do is breath. The MORE stress you are under, the worse its going to get.

Now. Do some research. Go to your regular doctor and have them reccomend a gastro for you.

My brother was put on prednisone. Its a nasty drug, but helped him. I just got off a week of it for my asthma. You MUST eat right and watch yourself because it can mmake you gain weight. BUT if you follow the doctor (and this is the medicine he gives you) it will help. You need to go to the doctor TODAY.

All my best to you!

Re: Please help me - not wedding related.

im sorry your going through this but seriously go to a dr as soon as possible.

my friend has ulcerative colitis and she didnt take care of it for a long time...she got really sick and was in the hospital for almost a month...had to have 4 blood transfusions and was seriously ill for awhile. now she takes care of herself, follows a strict diet, etc and she is much better.

i am not trying to scare you but just letting you know that it can be serious if you don't take care of yourself.

good luck!
