please help =- please

as you guys know my fmil is dying of lung cancer. she had a seizure right after beginning chemo, in which she lost her front teeth.

She is 45 years old and a wonderful woman. She looks in the mirror and sees that she has no hair and teeth, and she remembers that she is dying. She is at a point now where she is giving up completely due to her appearance. It is not that she is being vain- it is just a reminder that she is fighting a battle she cannot win. She cries herself to sleep every night.

Having her teeth replaced is cosmetic and therefore not something an insurance company will cover. As her children, we are trying to save up the money to have her teeth replaced but we're young and struggling ourselves.-- We have the wedding and we're sooo behind and everyone wants us to go ahead with it. but at the same time we feel so guilty not helping her replace them and seeing her so depressed.

she's been through so much.....she lost her entire family by the time she was 17. She burried her mother, father, and two brothers-- her other 2 sisters were given up for adoption and she was sent to live with her aunt. This aunt recently passed away due to lung cancer. She has always been a caring, selfless woman. She has always taken away from herself to give to her children, husband and anyone else that needed her.

A few years ago, her father in law was dying of cancer. She completely nursed him, fed him and was by his side..this was on top of working as a waitress at night and caring for two children.

does anyone know a way that i can help her. This is truly her dying wish. She cannot go on and enjoy the rest of her days because seeing herself without hair and teeth is a constant reminder that she is dying.

I want to help - we cut corners everywhere and give her w/e we can....i just dont know what else 2 do........i wish they would have saved for a rainy day.

i am so depressed and my fh is too- hes also taking it out on me b/c he thinkss im wrong but then wen i suggest taking the money from the wedding he says no.

im so stuck and depressed.....this isnt how i pictured my wedding planning at all :(

please pray for us.

To you and your FH - I can only imagine what you are going through - But your love and support is immeasurable -

Would she consider a nice wig at all? I cannot imagine how she is feeling but it is great that she has a great FDIL like you

you and your FH are wonderful children and she is lucky to have you both - it sounds like FH was raised by her selfless example and that he found a great girl to marry who shares those important values.

there are different ways that teeth can be replaced - i remember a kid i went to school with got a front permanent tooth knocked out somehow and they gave him a kind of retainer with a fake tooth attached. of course this isn't the perfect solution but there may be more than one way to do it that might be less expensive. the other thing you can try is to post your story somewhere where a kind-hearted dentist may see it and offer to help at a reduced rate, kind of like lawyers take on pro bono work. i know that she would probably feel weird about being 'charity,' but it might be a good way and your touching story would definitely go a long way in convincing people to help.

no matter what happens, you are a fantastic fdil. i'm sure that's not much comfort at this difficult time, but you are.

I agree... you'd be surprised yourself at how many caring, self-less people would be willing to help.

I will be praying for you and your FH's family. You really are a shining example of what's good. Continue to be strong.

I'm afraid I have no words of advice but I'm so sorry you're going through this. Do you or does she attend a church, synagogue, or other house of religion? Can the members take up a collection for her?

I'm praying that you all receive the gift of peace and that God's embrace comforts each of you.

do you or anyone you know have a dentist that can help you out? Maybe he/she can talk to some friends in the field and do some pro bono work?

Wow, I'm so sorry. This must be so hard for all of you.
I would agree with other posters about cosmetic dentists who will do pro-bono work. I also feel like there must be organizations out there like Make A Wish, but only for adults. It might be worth searching.
As for hair, I can tell you about a non-profit I met with for work. They're called Couture for Cancer. It was founded by a hair stylist. They give a free hair replacement system worth $3,500 to anyone undergoing chemo. It's non surgical...they customize a wig and medically bond it to skin. It lasts for 6-8 weeks. It looks amazingly natural.
Here's their site http://coutureforcancer.org. They'll set her up with trained salon. THey work with a lot of Redken salons.
HTH and you'll all be in my prayers.

I am so sorry that your FMIL and her family is going through this- this tragedy is bringing me to tears.
I totally agree with the poster above in trying to find a nice kind-hearted dentist who can mabe do something to help.

Also, have you considered maybe getting her a wig so that she feels a little more comfortable..

sending many prayers her way

Can your FH's father help? Maybe FH can swing a second job for a bit? What about a wig? Just suggestions. You are in my thoughts, good luck.
